I want to know what the MAC is doing for us for giving up a home game to fix things for OU and the MAC. It better be something better than a plaque or one of those cetificates of merit that any doofus can print on Microsoft publisher.

And we better be playing one more home game than usual next year (7 at home ) or i will be none too happy. Of course, I can't do anything more than bitch about it....but I'm gonna do lots of that.
I'll join on that bitchfest, Flip.
They'll probably give us a home game...on mid-semester break.

Probably because he has a source, but it isn't finalized yet.

Dear Lord. No more bowls, just extend the regular season, and for cripes sake let the teams and players decied championships on the field and not the media voters.
Its impossible to get excited about two more no one cares who plays in them bowls.

Under the current structure, this is the only way possible for our conference to make any inroads in terms of facilities and recruiting in the existing power [money] structure.

One day, by the grace of God, the revolution will take place. But, until then, this is very good news for our conference. I hope it pans out as well as Vandelay says it will.

More bowl games for the MAC would be great, just don't be complaining when all of a sudden the Mountain West, WAC, and Sun Belt conferences start to get more bowl bids because they are in the same situation we are. But in all honesty, when is enough? There are so many bowl games now that I myself, a die hard college football fan, am bored as hell by the time the BCS games start. When will it come down to a playoff? It's getting ridiculous.

And if it comes down to Temple or BG playing that extra road game, it BETTER be Temple. The MAC has kissed their kiester enough.
True, but they did come here last year. It may be our turn to go to Philadelphia. Then again, Boise State was supposed to come here this year, and that didn't happen...
Our contract with Temple, including last year's home game, was signed before Temple agreed to join the MAC.

As part of that agreement to join the MAC, they need to play some games -- and I would guess many of those are road games, as a sort of in-kind entrance fee to our league.

In any case, the site of last year's Temple-Bowling Green game doesn't really have bearing on the site of this year's game, if there is one.

I think Temple is coming to Bowling Green.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a cap on the number of bowl games, which is the currently at 28? I was under the impression that any new bowl games would be replacing existing ones that are being discontinued due to whatever reason. I thought I read this somewhere.

The NCAA sets the cap, and they also certify new bowl games, so they can decide it all by a vote and stroke of the pen. More likely to happen if they also decide to let 6-6 teams go bowling.

If those other conferences mentioned above starting getting even more bowl games, they may have to count 5-7 records as bowl-eligible. :P

The current cap is 28 ... but that was set before the move to the 12-game schedule and the likely flood of 6-6 teams sitting around in December with not much to do. When I last spoke to the folks at the NCAA they kept empahsizing that right now 6-6 teams would not be bowl-eligible. I fully expect 6-6 teams to be eligible and it wouldn't surprise me if another bowl is added.

I do, too...and WMU played the last two years at the Doyt. I remember BG playing at Ohio in '96 and '97. It happens.

I think Temple could manage to pull things together and prove a decent addition to the MAC scheds.

I think the prospect of getting firm third and fourth bowl big will be great. I'm more curious as to where they are going to be, Indiana, Toronto, etc. The conference has fought so long to get to this point, it will be nice once we get over the top. I think having the bowl games will do more than anything to enhance and build fan support. It provides something for fans to look forward too, and as we have seen in recent years, MAC fans are starting to enjoy a lot of things, (tailgating, bowl games, etc) that used to be only in the land of the Big Ten and such. Basketball enjoyed a change not unlike this ten years ago, when fans started to realize it wasn't a negative to call themselves MAC fans.

all the additional bowls will do ( and by the way the number of bowlgames got rediculos about 5 bowls ago) is to solidify the BCS and the monopoly the BCS presidents impose on the National Electoral game. With the 12 game sch i believe and may well need to be corrected that 6-6 teams are not going to be eligable for bowls, thus opening more spots in existing bowls, if the 500 rule is in effect.

Okay. We get it.

That doesn't change the fact that more MAC bowl bids is good for BG under the current system.
