Hi folks!!

I was buzzing around the internet and found this message board and thought that I, as a total outsider (well, my mother attended BGSU MANY years ago so maybe I qualify as a "BGSU Brat"?), would drop in to share a few of my observations regarding all things BGSU Women's Basketball. Hopefully this is ok?

First of all, I must say....you, the fans of BGSU, ROCK!!!! Add me to the list of people who watched the game on TV Sunday and was thoroughly impressed with the crazy support you showed!! I wasn't surprised though...I've witnessed it first hand at the MAC tourney 2 years in a row. I compare the energy you bring to the U. of Buffalo Men's fans....only with a much more polished (read: Classy) approach. The UB fans remind me of the nutty 4th cousin who wasn't invited to the reunion but found out about it and showed up anyway.

As for the team.....WOW!!! I absolutely LOVE this team!!! I'm a bit old school (ok, a LOT old school) so being able to witness a team play the way they do is a total joy. More often than not, their execution, both offensively and defensively, is borderline flawless. Sometimes the shots don't drop on the offensive side and sometimes the shots do drop for the opponent on the defensive side but rarely is it due to lack of execution. They obviously get superior coaching....it shows BIG TIME. I think in this day and age, the use of the word "team" is severely mis-used...at times like a punchline. This Lady Falcon team makes me remember what the true meaning of the word is. Everyone has a role and everyone embraces their role. You just don't see that often enough in the game of basketball anymore.

Oh.....1 more thing, I've read that Curt Miller doesn't think that he has any WNBA players. That might be true, but I do know know for sure that at least 2 teams from that league are watching the progress and improvement of 1 of his players quite closely. I'm not sure I should name the player (I was told this info on an "understanding" of secrecy but wasn't told outright to clam up. ) but if someone guesses her identity, there's no harm so lets just say that when you win the MVP of your conference tournament as a freshman, you peak the curiosity of pro scouts and put youself on the radar pretty quickly.

Welcome aboard greg1! As much as I would be freakin estatic if we had a legit WNBA prospet on our team, I just don't see it. By reading between the lines there in your post you must obviously mean Kate Acther. She's has major skills for sure, but I don't think WNBA worthy skills. If she were between 5'10 and 5'11 and could shoot the 3, with her good quickness I could easily see her as a possible low draft pick or UDFA. But I'm not sure she has enough physical skills to go along with her obvious exellent pg skills. These girls that are in the WNBA nowadays are almost like men in their physiques. I gotta tell ya , on the few times that I watched a WNBA game if wasn't for the faces and the boobs I woulda thought men were playing. These WNBA ladise out there are just loaded with freakish man-like size and athletism.

But nothing would make me happier if Kate , Ali or some other girl on our team was really a possible WNBA prospect.

I only know what I've been told and to date, my source has not been wrong about anything he's told me regarding WNBA scoops, trends, prospects, etc.. When I asked him about BGSU players, he told me that Kate is on the radar for 2 teams in the league. He didn't say what the level of interest is...just that both teams are looking at a number of PG's from the class of 2008 and she is one of them.

Take a look at the rosters around the WNBA. The point guard position is paper thin league wide. Heck, at least 3 teams do not have a single true PG on their roster. Add to that the 2 team expansion in '08 and you've got a LOT of opportunities for PG's to make an impression. Right now, I would not
think of Kate as being on anybody's draft board (coming from a mid-major is a huge hurdle to overcome regrdless of talent level) come 2008 but going to someone's camp as a UDFA is an incredibly realistic possibility.

Speaking of the '07 tourney....I have a very high level of ignorance about something and maybe someone will know what the scoop is. With all 12 teams coming to Cleveland beginning next year, and the guys playing on Wednesday, what is happening with the women? Will they play Monday, Tuesday and then not until Friday? It would seem, to me, that having them play the week before the men might make sense but as much as Dan Gilbert loves hosting the MAC, I can't see him being agreeable to a 2 week road trip for the Cavs due to lack of availability of his own building. Anyhow, if anyone has heard something, any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'm pretty sure I heard that too. Maybe on one of the radio broadcasts before a game. Anyway, if two of us are thinking the same thing that must be the truth.

I tried to contact the MAC office this morning but no luck. I then called WKNR figuring they might have some scoop since they are the official radio station of the tournament. I was able to speak to the program director and he stated that nothing "official" has been announced and that, to the best of their knowledge, 3 options are being considered.

1. What was posted above where the women play Sat/Sun , then leave town and 4 teams come back for the usual Fri/Sat games while the men play straight through Wed. thru Sat.

2. Women's 1st round Sat. Men's 1st round Sunday.....then business as usual with the Wed. - Sat scheduling for both men and women

3. Women's 1st round Monday, Men's 1st round Tuesday and then business as usual for the Wed. thru Sat. schedule.


As of now, they THINK that option #1 is what the sponsors (First Energy to be specific...Kraft thinks they are getting screwed regardless) want while option #2 is what Arena management prefers. The conference leans towards option 2 because it is the least amount of change from the setup that has been working for 6 or 7 years. It's probably going to be several months before an official announcement is made because all parties involved are attempting to figure out how they can do this while keeping the schools and fans in mind and keep travel costs as low as possible.
