Basketball Banquet
Basketball Banquet
The basketball banquest last night. It was very entertaining. Dave Hoager was the emcee and was pretty low key. Coach spoke about the disappointing season and the possibilities of next season. He did mention again that when kids come to BG they are coached to prepare them for the pro's and it takes hard work and dedication. Awards were handed out. Samarco MVP and Lefeld Spirit. The highlight of the night was the hilarious fashion show that Dakich made the players do. Most players were in suits from Coach Richter. Samarco was in one from Nate Miller and Sullivan had orange shoes. The players were cracking up during the whole impromptu event. This was by far the most entertaining banquet that I had been to. Plus, Mawel spoke.
For those interested, the menu consisted of:
salad
fruit
pasta salad
jello fruit ring (by far my personal favorite. That stuff rocks.)
rolls
corn
California mix
mashed taters
roast beef
chicken
baked fish
cake or pie
Dakich didn't eat. He walked around during dinner talking to different tables.
During the highlight video, a pic of Rattlesnake Bob got the most applause.
I talked with Samarco, Lefeld and Marshall. All impressive young men, especially Marshall.
Also in attendence was a 6'9", 310 lb. kid from Detroit. He will be a HS senior next year to my understanding. His first name was Otis. Don't remember the last name. The dude was huge! Hope we get him.
If you weren't there, you should try to go next year. Always a nice event.

I like that steak comes from cows. That is why a cow will not think twice about eating you.

Thanks for the first-hand info. I couldn't make it, but I did sponsor a player. Hope to be able to make it next year.

You probably mean...
Otis Polk
He plays for Detroit Consortium, a class C (Michingan has 4 classes....with A being the largest and D being the smallest) school.
WMU has a verbal from a kid on the same team named Martell McLemore.
Polk is a senior so I assume Lamonte and DD are recruiting him for next year.
This is one recruiting site's ranking of him.

I've never seen him play.

It's very good to see coach and the players having a good time after this disappointing season. Hopefully it will get the players to have more fun and hopefully this will help lead to a successful 2006-07 season. I also hope we get that otis kid. That would be huge...no pun intended

It seems that if he's at our banquet, there's a fair chance of us signing him.
We had a severe problem blocking out on the defensive boards this year. Mr. Polk would be an instant solution to that problem.
Yeah, but is the door to the locker room big enough for him?BleedOrange wrote:We had a severe problem blocking out on the defensive boards this year. Mr. Polk would be an instant solution to that problem.
