Who is this "miss understanding," and is she single? I could use a woman like that... 8)

Sorry bandos. Couldn't resist. Roll along...

While I know you are misunderstanding, I might as well go on to say no, you couldn't handle a week of band camp. Not slamming you...just saying band camp is tough. Some people can't even make it past registration before hurting themselves

The worst day this past season wasn't even during band camp, as unbelievable as that is. It was that day when it was mid-to-high-nineties, had to be like 90% humidity.... sweat would be pouring down your back just from standing there doing nothing. And, naturally, that was the day we practiced pregame zillions and zillions of times.

"Okay, band, pregame off the field!" "Okay, do the down-the-field again!" "Do it again!" "Okay, now do entry again!" "C'mon guys, more energy, get those knees up!" "Okay, now do down-the-field again!" "Now do it again!" "Down-the-field once more!" "Now run entry again!" "Okay, now do the whole thing again, and give it 100% effort this time!"

After that we ran halftime, and I (along with a good number of other people) ended up having to sit out for five or ten minutes-- which I hate doing-- otherwise I would have passed out on the field like one of our fliccs did in the '04 season.

You know, its stories like this that make me really respect you bandos. You guys take a lot of flak from a lot of arenas, and in my opinion, you all get very little credit for the time, energy, and effort that you put in.

Point of fact: as proud as I was of the Falcon football team's performance at Ohio State in 2003, I was far more proud of the performance of the FMB. You guys ROCKED THE SHOE, and in my opinion were at least on par with "The Best Damned Band in the Land."

I know you guys are probably annoyed when my "non-band-ass" pops into this forum, but know that I do it out of respect and gratitude. YOU GUYS (and GALS) ROCK!!!! :D

I personally liked when our maggots...all of them....compliments of freedom and witty little thought from my brain mocked the dotting of th i.....which is why tuba players get the reputation of being queer in the first place!!!

Dotting the I is stupid.....I would much rather be the eye of the falcon.....

...and not to take away from the gruelingness of marching band....but if I was an outsider reading the description of 'the toughest day' I would have no clue what the hell any of that meant!

I think rather that trying to explain it for its physical strenuousness and saying that people couldn't make it through band camp or whatever is not going to prove your point....I mean come on you have all seen some of the wastes of life that manage to get through fund's week....

I think what needs to be discussed is the juggling act that makes a good marcher....that is where bandos seperate themselves...not with physical endurance (see also KKPsi TBS intramurals)! Playing and marchign at the same time successfully is tough, but adding to that memorized music with a realatively high level of musicianship, then precision marching is what makes it as tough as it is!

Lets face....no one ever said...wow Dick you are in marching band....what an athlete....I wanna blow your tuba! As I said....fatties with no physical capabilities at all make it through...and the fans can see that....so lets stop pretending that Fund's week weeds out the weak!!!

True. But maybe we can say that it weeds out most of those who don't really want to be there all that much? If you're not really wanting to be dedicated, then fundies week is an opportune reason to say "hell no!!" Of course, that doesn't stop people from turning apathetic halfway through the season, but *shrugs*.

You're misunderstanding me. I meant you'll probably be gone from the boards. Probably...

And speaking of KKPsi/TBS intramurals, we just got rocked in softball by the women's basketball team. It was fun to watch, and they weren't cocky, so everyone had fun. We play them once more and I look forward to it. But damn, it was funny!

Hey, I bet everyone here thought I'd just be gone in a week too, but here I am, back to ruffle feathers as everyone puts it. I actually have a lot of respect for "thatguy." He's on here sharing his opinion. Maybe he didn't like the shows? Big Deal. It seems to me as if he's on here to make some waves and share with some people in the band department that he doesn't think that the current staff is doing nearly as good of a job as they could. When he says he feels bad for Woodwind players and percussion, is he saying they did a bad job? I think not. I'm pretty sure he's talking about scoring and lack of balance and blend within the band. I was discussing this with a band member from this year and it was agreed upon that the scoring is far too thick for the smaller instruments to be heard. I don't know what it is around here but why does everything always have to be sunshine and rainbows?

On another note, how can everyone knock on this guy for saying something about the band when he's not in it? How many people every day post about the football team on this forum alone? Are they all football players? I think not. They are however, paying students or alumni that expect to be represented well publicly by all groups affilated with the university. This is no different.

Lastly, all I will say about the band this year is that they need to figure out the concept of quality over quantity.

The End.

No, but we hoped so.

It's not. We've never said it was. You might have assumed that on your own, but that is not our responsibility.

I personally don't mind that he's not IN the band. It does bother me that he is not willing to put a name to his claims. I think thats a very weak and pathetic move.

And while this is a personal preference, I would like for him to avoid making "he said, she said" comments, however. If that person wants their opinion shared, they can come on the boards and share it themselves. If it's not his opinion, he has no place in sharing it.

I don't think a single person here would argue with you on that one, surprisingly enough...

A couple of observations:

1) thatguy was making a judgement on the entire season based on watching a video. The video camera is located up near the press box and only has ONE MICROPHONE. I remember seeing the band this past year and I heard all of the voices and I didn't think the scoring was that thick - it was as it always was.

2) It's fine to critique something, but at least be a touch more specific. Lines such as, "I hope next year is better for everyone, Ill be in the stands...praying to see something with tallent[sic]" can easily be taken out of context and seen as a person afront to those individuals currently in band. I have certain issues with the FMB but the posters on here know EXACTLY where i stand because I'm specific.

3) It's great to disagree, but when you come off like an expert - as mssr thatguy did - you will be questioned as to you background. It happens. You best be prepared to step up and tell people why you're an expert. I can critique the band all day long. I don't because I really don't have that much bad to say about them. I know where they were and I know where they are. I also have confidence in where they're going.

4) My name is hammb and I type a LOT of words. :P
