Birds

Post by RobbyFalcon »

I only get to one or two games a year at the Doyt, so this may be a silly question BUT

Does BG ever have a real falcon fly around the Doyt before a game or at half-time?

I saw a guy on TV doing this the other day and it looked pretty cool. (No, I wasn't watching SNL.) I think Auburn has an eagle and the Cincinnati Reds have an eagle from the zoo once in a while.

There are a lot of pigeons and gulls around the Doyt, so having a falcon swoop around would be cool and serve a hygienic purpose.

Go Falcons!!! (human and bird)

There used to be a falconer nearby that would bring his falcon in during the football games but I haven't seen him around for a long, long time (at least the early '80's).

There is a Peragrin Falcon at the Toledo Zoo.
I am not sure about the logistics of having the bird fly around the stadium though. BGGrad01 and I have discussed this at some legth, agreeing that it would be very cool, but it would not be so cool if the bird flipped out and got hurt or something like that.

Won't Rattlesnake Bob suffice?
I like that steak comes from cows. That is why a cow will not think twice about eating you.

i know my mom said that when my uncle went here in 68-72 there was a falcon that they would have fly around the stadium before the game. she doesnt remember if it was every game or not, but she said she was younger and can't remember but remembers going to many games since my uncle was on the football team and seen the falcon fly.. i think it would be cool to bring it back. but i also heard that they would let if fly and sometimes it wouldnt come back. so i guess you wouldnt want that.

One occasionally roosts right outside my office window on forays from the old Commodore Perry. Haven't seen him in awhile but next time he perches on the ledge I'll try to reach out and grab him. The huge, unrepaired crack in my window should make it possible.

If we were to have a peregrine falcon fly around the Doyt before the football games, it would be a huge boost to the overall atmosphere of Falcon Football at the Doyt. Of course, the higher ups will give up everything from safety to bird flu as to why we can't do it.

And this will impact our attendance how?

Well some of the larger falcons are able to hunt pretty large prey. We could train them to fly around BG, snatch young kids and bring them to the stadium. Parents would have no choice but to buy a ticket to come and retrieve their children, thus increasing the number of people who have walked through the gate.

We could have the falcon fly around and attack the bad luck rabbit that stole the show a couple of times.
