What will attendance be like for BG v. Wisky?

Post by Falcon52 »

Wisky travels well. Browns Stadium holds around 72,000. I am a season ticket holder so I can start buying now. Is this going to be a big empty stadium? Can someone start a poll?

under 30,000
30,000 to 40,000
40,001 to 50,000
50,001 to 60,000
60,001 to 70,000

How well does Wisky really travel. Could they sell it out?

I'll venture a guess of 40,000 at this time....Wisky travels VERY well.
I don't see it selling out but it will be a good crowd.

GO FALCONS!!! Road warriors in 2006.

I wish I shared your optimism Freak, but I would look for an announced attendance of over 30,000, but I will be amazed if there are more than 25,000 people there.

Wisconsin will bring 10,000 easily. I think BG will provide 20-30 thousand more fans, possibly more if the marketing is done right.

The big question is, will the possible AT suspension have a negative impact on attendance?

For comparison sake, I know of two college regular season opening games that were played in NFL stadiums last year. Washington played Air Force at the Seahawks’ Qwest Field in front of 26,482 and Houston played Oregon at the Texans’ Reliant Stadium in front of 19,981. Both of these games are similar to our situation this upcoming season. I can only hope we get better crowds than both of these examples.

No offense, J4H, but are you kidding me? There may be 30,000 non-Wisconsin fans in the stands, but if there are 30,000 (or more) BG fans in attendance, I think I may truly eat a bug.

How many neutral fans will be there? 5,000? 10,000?

I'd say between 35,000-40,000, Wisky will surely bring close to 20,000, and along with BG students and alums in the Cleveland area, this to me seems like a reasonable figure.

Like I said, if the marketing is done right. How many BG alums are in the Cleveland area? 30,000 is obviously on the high end, but I think it's possible.

WI has a lot of fans in the cleveland area, yes this number is not like OSU fans but still strong,a dn WI fans in PA, OH and MI did not have a chance to see them last year other than tv or in WI, so this may help up the numbers. further i would think, that local HS's with prospective students would like this game, and if it gets hyped right we could see over 40k but my guess is in the 30k arena.

Announced will be higher than actual. Look at the way they are giving away upper deck seats with each season ticket order.

I'm gonna say it goes down in the books as about 35,000, and it will look decent on TV.

I know I'm the local pessimist, but if there are more than 30 thousand people there it will be a Wisconsin home game, IMO. Coming off a very disappointing season I just don't expect us to have nearly as much of a crowd as we wouldve a year ago if this game had been played then.

One nice thing that I can say for sure is that there has been discussion of this game on the Browns board more than once. There are a number of Cleveland people that have expressed interest in attending this game just to see a good college football game. They are mostly OSU fans, but as much as we tend to hate OSU fans most of them do root for all ohio schools secondarily, and have mentioned they'd be rooting for BG. Hopefully we'll pull in a large number of these casual football fans who will be supporting our team even if they have no affiliation with the university.

Hammb, I agree. I think Wisconsin will bring a ton and it will sound like a Wisconsin home game. I don't think we wil travel a ton.

Now, as for "marketed right," to reach your 30K figure, you're going to have to essentially run the table--get all the alums. A fraction is a little more realistic, don't you think? Are we going to use court orders to get people there as marketing? That figure seems a little hard to imagine. In total, if we take 10K, I will be shocked.

Neutral fans--relatively small.

Take a look at the following link:

http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/ir/factbook ... county.htm

Cuyahoga - 11,311
Lorain - 3,535
Summit - 2,539
Stark - 1,750

I'm not sure what all counties are surrounding the Cleveland, but the big four that I see are listed above.
