Mmmm.....that could be. I like the fact that Liana Jennings and Jen Uhl come from Div.1 programs. The more recruits we get in the top 3 divisions the better. Basicly kids coming from Div.3 and higher schools is good.

As noted or alluded to in some articles, Jennings is tremendously athletic. My friend in the Akron area tell me she may be THE best athlete in her class in NE Ohio; some go farther and say in the entire state. Another person told me she would be a tremendous pure athlete yet with real serious bball skills. Watch for this player to play more two guard or even our slashing "three" guard spot. The fact that she can play the point is a bonus, but I think she will be a scorer. I have not seen her play, but I hope to do so next year.

Post player Zuercher is rated the second best post in her class in Ohio. I am told the top player is a UConn/Tenn type player. So we got one of the better available players at her position according to many. Every year is different in what position(s) is strong in our Ohio/Indiana/Mich recruiting area.

Uhl is from another winning program and can shoot the ball. Has a nose for scoring and like all players her age must get stronger. I am sure she will work hard on this aspect of her game.

Pretty good early commit group for 2007! More on the way?

Sarah Clapper played division IV high school ball I'm willing to say that once she steps foot on campus and you see how good she is you won't care what division she played in high school...

I'm certain you might have been skeptic about LeBron James too, he didn't play Division I basketball in high school...

If Miller would feel like employing a pressing type defense, our depth will blow most MAC teams away.

If the three big girls next year can help out inside (Baker especially), we will be even tougher to beat than this year. That, my friends, is saying something.
We all know how much a lack of size hurt us in this year's NCAA tournament matchup against UCLA. Now that we have turned some heads with that 28-2 record, and got some of those bigger girls attention, we've got some of them committing. Considering that we will be loaded with guards in the next few years, even after our seniors leave in 07, it appears that we may be on a permanent, or at least a semi-permanent upswing.

Hey I'm not saying that the're won't be a certain player here and there in Div. 4 or 5 that is Div.1 college material but the're little of them in those divisions. I'm just saying you usually can't go wrong getting most of your recruits from the top 2 or 3 divisions. As far as Lebron's HS goes the're probably alot of catholic schools that area really good and loaded that arn't Div.1 cuz most of em are all boys arn't going to have the number of students or boys total as some of the public ones. In fact most of these really good Div.2 catholic schools beat up these bigger Div.1 HS all the time.

HS Divisions

Post by duckunder53 »

Falconboy - For one, HS basketball in Ohio only has four divisions, not five like you mentioned. Also, I agree that the chances of a really good player playing at a DI school is more likely than a DIV school, but that does not mean that DIV schools cannot have great players. It is easy to see that with a bigger school there are just more girls/students to choose from, giving the chances of there being a great player increases. It is the same for football or baseball...small school players get overlooked, but in all real honesty, there are great players at those schools as well.

Sylvania Northview

Post by duckunder53 »

Also, I see that two seniors from Sylvania Northview have committed to play basketball in the MAC next year, it's too bad that we could not get one of these girls out of our own backyard.

Riana Miller, 6'3" C - committed to Akron
Lisa Johnson, 6'0" F - committed to Toledo

I do love the fact that the BG women are building a dynasty of sorts. I hope that Curt Miller sticks around. I will definately be out to watch some more games next year. It'd be nice to get the attendance up.

So now Falconboy isn't just obsessed with how big everyone is (football, men's and women's hoops) but how big the School they went to is?

There is some mean basketball played by some of these small schools and they send a lot of people to the college ranks. And they aren't used to losing.

I'm not obsessed with players from bigger schools ,where do you get that idea? I never said theren't some great players that come from a Div.4 school , just that only a handfull of 'em translate well to Div.1 college basketball. Yes, there are diamonds in the rough everywhere and I'm sure Sarah Clapper is one of those diamonds that you'll find at smaller school from time to time.

I'm just saying that is nice that we're able to land some more Div.1 HS players as well, just for the simple fact they do face better talent more often than the smaller school will.

1996, thanks for posting the Sarah Clapper update. I wan't there, but an attendee told me Clapper was tough and aggressive on the offensive end. She was the game MVP playing for the losing side- a rarity.

The D III-IV game she played was probably at the same level, playter wise, as the bigger school game. I was told Toledo signee Allie Clifton (Van Wert) played well in the other game. I have met Allie and her family and she is a good player and a fine young lady. Sometimes due to position need and schollie numbers, you can't move on some players. i wish her well- except when she plays BG.

Clapper looks like a player. I imagine next year will be a transitional year with our roster make up, but look for her to be a solid contributor later.

I have also heard Tara Breske, incomer from Bedford (MI), looks monstrous. Strong player who simply needs to stay healthy. Could be a difference maker. Some rated her a better volleyball player than her teammate who signed with Michigan. We get a great athlete.
