That would be a lot funnier if hammb read this forum!Rightupinthere wrote:A couple of observations:
1) thatguy was making a judgement on the entire season based on watching a video. The video camera is located up near the press box and only has ONE MICROPHONE. I remember seeing the band this past year and I heard all of the voices and I didn't think the scoring was that thick - it was as it always was.
2) It's fine to critique something, but at least be a touch more specific. Lines such as, "I hope next year is better for everyone, Ill be in the stands...praying to see something with tallent[sic]" can easily be taken out of context and seen as a person afront to those individuals currently in band. I have certain issues with the FMB but the posters on here know EXACTLY where i stand because I'm specific.
3) It's great to disagree, but when you come off like an expert - as mssr thatguy did - you will be questioned as to you background. It happens. You best be prepared to step up and tell people why you're an expert. I can critique the band all day long. I don't because I really don't have that much bad to say about them. I know where they were and I know where they are. I also have confidence in where they're going.
4) My name is hammb and I type a LOT of words.

I'm not annoyed. I like it when 'others' show up in here. What I don't like is when people (and I'm not pointing fingers or naming names here) show up and don't respect what goes into a Saturday afternoon performance. I'm not saying you have to like what you see, but PLEASE have a little respect towards what all goes into just being able to do a park and blow. I'm sure the football team feels the same way. Yea, they may lose (hopefully win), but there's a lot of work that went into the product that is on the field.Bleeding Orange wrote:
I know you guys are probably annoyed when my "non-band-ass" pops into this forum, but know that I do it out of respect and gratitude. YOU GUYS (and GALS) ROCK!!!!
Also, in something to a response to my first post. I respond differently toward critism based on where it is coming from. For example, if Bleeding Orange came up to me after a performance and said that the show sucked I'd respond differently than if Fliccgirl said so. Why? Background. Flicc can more or less tell me what was wrong, while BO really doesn't know. (sorry to pick on you two, but I didn't think you would mind)

Just kidding. I totally understand what your saying, and would be confused if you felt differently.

I am sorry....I have no respect for a park and blow....it is a cheap way out of doing things....and the One week wonder thing is not an excuse.....You might as well just sit in the stands! I always got pissed when the director was like yep stand there like you've got a load in your pants and play this happy little song! What a waste of life....it would be easier to just do halftime from the stands!
I would rather do a very mediocre (code for shitty) drill, than stand there like a legless douschebag and play! Call me crazy!
I am not trying to call people with no legs douschebags! So I dont want to hear that!

Oooooh burn, ouch. I'm not sure if that's serious or not. I don't come on here and attack people on the forum, or say that you are morons, or that you being poor musicians and performers is the reason the band sucks. I just want to see a change, I share my opinions, get ripped apart and move on. I think that's rather harmless, I have a lot of respect for all of the people on here that I know, and it's unfortunate that I guess I cannot share my opinions on here without people hoping that I won't post or be involved. I want this band to be good. Also, unlike thatguy, I have seen the band in person year after year, I have offered not only hints at my name, but my actual name. We all know each other for the most part, and it's unfortunate that rather than helping to educate "thatguy" he was just ripped to shreds. Could we possibly explain to him that the recording quality on videos is bad, and that we understand that the FMB isn't for everyone, maybe some of those people were his friends, who knows? And yes, I have personal issues with the current director of the FMB as things were said to me that were uncalled for and very unprofessional, processes were changed in order to suit a personal want rather than a fair opportunity and I'm very open about that. I apologize if my posts on here anger people, but why would you let them anger you? If you don't care what I have to say, then ignore it. Otherwise feel free to argue with support and in a somewhat civil manner, rather than personal bashing. Either way, I'm out again, probably for awhile, maybe forever. How terribly discouraging to hear something like this said about me, when I have done NOTHING to you Erica.
ps. I will be at LB for drumline rehearsal tomorrow, feel free to swing by and discuss this further with me in person.

Fuj, I think the biggest difference between you and thatguy is that you come across (at least to me) and conduct yourself in a very respectful manner. As I eluded to in an earlier post, as someone from the band community is an opinion that I will take notice of. Both because of the respectful manner in which it is presented, and because of the background of where it is coming of. As far as the bashing of thatguy, I'm proably partly to blame. My first post was rather confrontational and antagonist, and if I was smart I would have bit my tounge. I'm not really aplogizing for wanting to know where thatguy is coming from, rather just saying that I proably could have chosen my words/tone a little better.

I'm going to pass on that Fuj, because trying to have a two-sided discussion with you is like trying to have one with a brick wall. I don't have an issue with your opinions, simply an issue with your delivery methods. And you may think you have never done anything to me, but whether you would like to realize it or not, you certainly have.MatrixBass3 wrote:SaxyIrishTenor wrote:No, but we hoped so.MatrixBass3 wrote:Hey, I bet everyone here thought I'd just be gone in a week too, but here I am, back to ruffle feathers as everyone puts it.

We can't do that b/c of our position" do you see that hayward.. your own little minions dont even like you and dont agree with how u run things...get a freakin hint ya bag. the tellin her off im refering to happened over e mail. i work too mcuh to have a meeting with her to tell her ot her face, and im not going to waste time out of my day to be in her presence....

No cussing, I don't think. Don't worry.
Look, the thing is, most of us KNOW we can always improve. We KNOW we're not as good as drum corps. We're a college marching band; it's never going to happen. That's not to say we can't improve.
And actually, we are. I know there are people who don't like Dr H, but we have improved drastically from where we were under Dr T. Could we improve still more under a different director? Maybe. I can't say what WILL happen or what WOULD happen, I can only point out what HAS happened.

OH! This is more of the FMB/DCI compare?
We had several Scouts march with us for a couple of years. There was only ONE Scout who compared us to their corp.
I asked one question to this individual, "How many times did you perform that ONE show you had this past year."
He just looked at me blankly. He didn't know a number because they played it so much and so often.
"Uh-huh" was my only answer and walked away. I can still feel his daggers on the back of my head......but he did want my job (DM) in the worst way.
There should never be a comparison between college bands and DCI. I also have NEVER EVER met a Falcon Marching Band Member ever say or believe "We're good enough."
In other words, you're preaching to the choir. It's akin to the football forum bitching about attendance. Everyone who reads that forum usually shows up to the freaking games.
I'm glad there's not cuss words. I fu**ing hate those.
