I based it off that...I bow to your expertise on him.
I dont understand why we just have 1 schollie left.
Minus Wright, Moon, Phillips.
Plus Polk?

Minus Soler due to graduation that's 12 guys.
So when we signed both Sims and Larsen (14 guys) did we know one of Wright, Phillips or Moon were going to leave. Or actually When we signed Miller midseason? Otherwise we are over our schollie numbers. It is not as simple as you are, and you are trying to make it.

It looks like they had too many players signed for this year if you include Phillips, Wright and Moon...which you would have to because all three would have still had eligibility.

I assume that every scholarship player expects to finish all 4 years. Now with the special case of Phillips what you say is probably 100% accurate. They knew he was leaving or that he could be leaving to they acted accordingly. The already did him a solid by giving him a year of college for free.Flipper wrote:Why are you assuming that Phillips' (or for that matter, Moon's) departure came as a suprise to the coaches?

Well, the addition and subtraction says we were over the limit on scholarships handed out unless someone left so that addition and subtraction would look alot like an algebra problem to me.Flipper wrote:No....they covered addition and subtraction in grade school. That's pretty simple....
Did anyone mention the fact that when we added Miller we were at 14 scholarships for 2006-07? I dont remember if they did.

I don't believe Phillips was actually granted a scholarship on a "permanent" basis. Of course he may have planned on graduating this spring and not coming back for a fifth year senior season all along, therefore one could argue that being on scholarhip this past year was "permanent".
Last summer, all 13 grants were filled, and Phillips was NOT one of them: (Floyd, Robinson, Wright, Samarco, Clements, Wilson, Moten, Radivojevic, Soler, Marschall, Lefeld, Sullivan, Holland).
Only one of those (Soler) was guaranteed to free up at the end of 05-06. Which meant only they could only secure one commitment for 06-07. That went to one of Sims/Larson.
Then Holland left before the semester began. I believe they did give that scholarship to Phillips for 05-06 ONLY. That opening allowed them to secure a letter of intent from the other of Sims/Larson for 06-07. Clearly there was no intention of Phillips being on scholarship for 06-07 at that point.
Then Wilson left at the end of the fall semester. That scholarship went to Nate Miller almost immediately, so he could enroll for spring.
At that point, once again all 13 scholarships are accounted for for 06-07, and Phillips is NOT included.
Then among those 13, Wright and Robinson leave. One of which has apparently been given to Polk, leaving one open grant.
Phillips has never really been in the scholarship count for next year.

DD on 1370.......
just a half hour ago or so said that he has 2 signees's already , I'm guessing those are Sims and Larson and he said he expected to sign up to 2 more. So apparently we ended up having 4 schollies to give out with the departure of Moon and Wright.

First, he was on 1470. He said the two were the kid from Ft. Wayne and the one from Michigan, who already signed. He said we have one more, and one more to come later. Note that he said it could come a lot later--not necessarily at the beginning of the signing period.
He also said that he didn't think anyone else was leaving, but if they did leave, they weren't the kind of players we needed. He says he feels good about the leadership coming back next year.

You make me want to laugh out loud, gf1! It IS that simple. We have 13 to give and 12 accounted for including Polk per my list. Why on earth your (a) think that Phillips was ever on scholarship, or (b) he's relevant to the 2006-7 scholarship any way (now that he's departed) tells me that you need to get a lot more sleep. 13 scholarships, 12 accounted for, 1 more to give. We DO NOT need a backwards accounting of our scholarship commits to 1990 to see this simple fact. This couldn't be more simple. It really couldn't.
