I crafted this for another board, but I thought it would interest all of us.
I've listed average attendance through the history of Bowling Green's hockey program, then then men's basketball attendance where I could find it.
I've bolded where hockey attendance exceeded basketball attendance.
One note: The basketball program had the advantage of a larger building until 1989-90, when the ice arena was expanded from 3,313 to 5,000 seats.

On the surface it looks pretty pathetic that both sports are drawing less than 3,000 per game, but considering the records of the two teams and the fact that games over Christmas break and Thanksgiving break are included, it is easy to understand. It is too bad that athletics can't schedule as many road games as possible over those breaks. Also, while very few games conflict, there are many that are held back to back on the same day. While the hockey crowd and the hoops crowd are very different, the die hard fan of both sports probably has a tough time committing 4-5 hours of a Saturday to both games. Especially if they have jobs, studying, or social functions (fraternity/sorority date parties).

that's because its 04-05 stats, not 05-06 stats. Baskteball average attendance was 1764 (total 22927, 13 games). Hockey average attendance was 2358 (total 47165, 20 games)svillefalcon wrote:that basketball number has got to be a little off, yeah over the whole year, the attendance was way better in the beginning of the year. But the end of teh year, we were only getting about 500 people to the games at teh end of the year lol

It was just like old time Falcon hockey at the rink again! What a blast that game was!!! ....and it will be like that again... and more often than just those games against the weasels, schmucks and egg suckers!!! I can't wait for next season to start with all the talent coming in and what we currently have on the team!!!!!!The Niz wrote:Speaking of attendence, The game against scUM had to be one of the best sports moments of my life. I've never been so rowdy and I was so pumped the entire game. It was amazing.
GO FALCON HOCKEY!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I hate MSU! Next time the egg suckers roll in here we really need to let them have it. I can't stand going up there every year and watching them hand it to us (by every year I mean this year and last year). It would be so great to go up there this year and actually be able to cheer for our team out loud without looking stupid because of the way we're losing. I can't wait for next season, I was a Spratt nay-sayer all year but his last couple games made me really excited to see him this year! This season should be great!
Yeah right girl!
Oorah!
