First BCS standings released!!

Post by Metz »

1. USC
2. Miami (FL)
3. Oklahoma
4. Auburn
5. Florida State
6. Wisconsin
7. Utah
8. California
9. Tennessee
10. Georgia
11. Texas
12. Purdue
13. Michigan
14. Boise State
15. Virginia
16. Texas A&M
17. Louisville
18. Arizona State
19. LSU
20. West Virginia
21. Oklahoma State
22. Florida
23. Notre Dame
24. UAB
25. Virginia Tech

What cracks me up is that Oklahoma is not #2. Miami (FL) is ranked 4 and 3 in the polls while Oklahoma is 2 in both. Some analyst on ESPN said Oklahoma is still fine but they need to win out. Maybe he's right, but to me this new BSC system still seems flawed. When it came out, it was supposed to match up the polls and it really didn't do that at all IMO.

UAB is 5-1. They just dusted off TCU on national TV this week. They look pretty good.

OU is better than Miami.

UAB is the Utah and Boise State of the season, they're just fashionably late to the party.

I just don't get this sentiment. The whole point of the BCS (be it flawed or not) was to inject something other than just pure human pollsters into the process of finding out who the best 2 teams are. Every year they tweak this or tweak that in an attempt to make it spit out the top 2 teams in the country based on the polls. If that's what they really want why don't they just average the 2 polls and take those teams!?

If it is my opinion solely I would say that Oklahoma is a little better than Miami right now, but not so much so that I'd scream outrage if they were ranked higher. The fact is that when 2 teams are undefeated you have to look at who they've played. Oklahoma's only decent opponents have been Texas & BG. The Big XII stinks this year, and Oklahoma could pay the price for it.

You know, I thought the tweak they made this year was an attempt to get as close to just averaging the two human polls without completely eliminating the competer polls. I say the following as a college football fan, not the fan of a team that has no shot at a BCS bowl: I hope that Miami, Okla, and USC all go undefeated just to show them again this year how stupid this whole BCS idea is. It doesn't work, and the powers that be (that is, those schools that get to collect the big pay checks), will never admit that this whole thing was bad for college football. :coo-coo:

What's hurting Oklahoma right now suppossedly is that we've only played one road game, that being this past weekend against a K-State team that has got to be extremely frustrating to figure out. The Texas game is counted as a home game for us, despite being on neutral territory with the fans split 50/50. Provided we keep winning, we'll pass Miami by Halloween.

We're all rooting for the Sooners, of course! It would be great if one of our two losses for the season came at the hands of the eventual national champs!

The way BG's non-conference schedule has gone the last couple years, Wisconsin will play in the National Championship game this year since we play them next season. The last two years, BG has started early on with a team that played in the national championship the previous season in Ohio State and Oklahoma, respectively.

Scott pretty much hit the nail on the head. Everyone is saying that we have only played one true road game, and that is the major factor. But it also hurts us that we have only played one ranked team. Miami has played two and that has helped in the computers a lot becuase the computers don't see how close Miami was to losing both of those. But oh well, if we win out, things will work out for the Sooners this year.

I'm not!

I'm rooting for every undefeated team to lose, as I do every year. I'm hoping for 5-6 one loss teams and the computers of the BCS catch on fire and the whole thing blows up. Riots in the street and they storm the NCAA offices until they institute a playoff...of course this will never happen.

I'm still rooting against everyone who does not yet have a loss.

Besides it doesn't help BG any. I was listening to ESPN radio yesterday and they were talking about the fact that Miami was ahead of them. The guy was saying that he watched them play BG, and BG moved the ball on them, so obviously they don't really deserve to be #2. He rationalized it by saying they struggled with BG, and thus are not a national championship caliber team. Nice to know all this winning has done nothing to change the national sentiment about our team.

Must have been Trev Alberts. He gives absolutley no credit to non-BCS schools. He is the anit-Vitale when it comes to giving the smaller schools a chance to prove themselves on the field/court. :butthead: :axe:  :coo-coo:

Must have been life. There is a freaking conspiracy in place and know it. We could go undefeated, with Oklahoma, Florida state, Miami, Ohio state as our OOC games each year, and there would be no way we would get anything. The entire NCAA and sports world hates us and its pretty clear to see that. Even NIU got more credit on their run last year than we have for the last several years. We got up into the top 15 too guys, but no one gave us a second thought once we lost to a good team on the road. We put a HARD beating on them last year and they remained in tehe polls.

Lets face it, if you arent Marshall or turdledo, or now Utah, and you are a mid-major school, you are jsut another crap team.
