Who's gone if Knight is signed? And where's the next point guard?

Perhaps Lefeld is either on academic scholly or decided not to deal with the pain anymore. I sure couldn't blame him if that's the case.

Well I guess the same point guard we had when we went 18-11 in 2004/05. I think with more talent and depth John Floyd will look much better. I was one of the loudest critics last year of him but I trust that they will be better with the added depth.

Here's a fact: We can't be any worse! With ANY added size, our team wins at least 5 more games. Eric Marschall is NOT a power forward. Watching him play in high school, I pictured him as a 2 or a 3. He handles the ball well, has a good outside shot but he doesn't play "big". He needs to be outside of the paint to be effective at the D-1 level!

Hopefully our outside shooting will improve this season to take some pressure off our undersized "bigs". By this I mean that if other teams have to expend more energy guarding everyone instead of jamming down in the paint, then our "bigs" might not get in foul trouble as quickly!

Anything to help Samarco makes us stronger!

Floyd sucked hard at the point in '04, and he sucked hard at the point last year. I'm thinking that he'll likely suck hard at the point again next year. Sure if you surround him with talent he'll look better, but he won't actually BE better. Good PGs make the players around them better, not vice versa.

I agree hammb about 2005 but you are dead wrong about 2004, look at the stats! I think he lead the league in assist and assist to turnover ratio. Yes he's slow and can't defend but his stats in 2004/05 don't agree with your comment that he sucked hard. Why must we make such rude comments?

I stand corrected: J. Floyd was second in assist in 2004/05 with 5.17 per game second to D. Haynes from Kent State. His assist/turnover ratio was sixth in the league at 1.72 per game. He also had 35 steals in 29 games. Now we all know 2005/06 was much different.

I think I missed one home game in '04-'05. I know I watched them play @EMU, @UT, and also in Cleveland for the MAC tourney. I don't care what the stats said Floyd was awful at the point. He had a ton of assists by tossing it to Reimold or Almanson with time running out on the shot clock and those guys would hit desperation shots. Conversely this year we didn't have guys that hit those shots and Floyd lost those assists.

I can count on one hand the number of times that Floyd has actually created offense for his teammates. He doesn't find players cutting to the basket, and when he does he cannot put the ball through that opening. He is just not a great distributor of the basketball, regardless of what the stats from 2 years ago may have shown.

As for his TO ratio, I've come to the conclusion that Floyd's mom or close friend is the scorekeeper at Anderson Arena. I don't even believe that stat anymore because every game I can think back and come up with more turnovers than what the official scorekeeper has. I shudder to think how many turnovers we'd average a game if they kept more accurate track of it.

Floyd was okay at best in '04-'05. Perhaps saying he sucked something hard was a touch hyperbolic, but I think it was closer to the truth than saying he played well. Last year I will stand behind sucked something awful. The guy is a quality bench guard who can score some points when the ball's not in his hands. He does a good job cutting to the basket, and actually finishes pretty well...he's also a solid FT shooter (better his SO year, but he's decent). However, we keep trying to force him into playing the PG spot and he is just flat out not a D1 PG. I've watched him a lot for 2 years now, and I feel pretty comfortable in my assessment. The offense was better last year with Wright running the point than when Floyd was there, and we all know that Wright was not a natural PG either...

In that case, I give up.
