After reading that, I'm not very optimistic he'll ever see the floor here. Hopefully he'll work hard and fit in and prove me wrong.
Maybe I'm off base, but to me, poor academics in high school = poor discipline. To Dakich, poor discipline = splinters in ass.

I have my doubts as well. Isn't the whole point of going to a prep school to help you get ready for college? If he spent a whole year at a prep school and still can't qualify academically, why should I think that he will qualify after attending a real college for a year?Jacobs4Heisman wrote:orangeandbrown wrote:Note that Knight is not expected to qualify academically.

Why the hell would you recruit a kid who couldn't qualify out of HS and still cannot qualify after a year at prep school!?!? This is the last desperate act of a desperate man. What makes even less sense is the fact that he won't be around even if Knight DOES get himself eligible for the '07-'08 season (which I won't be holding my breath on).
Beyond all the transfers and low quality talent we've had, we also seem to have brought in quite a lot of guys who couldn't qualify right away. I don't follow MAC recruiting real closely, so perhaps that's common in the conference, but it certainly hasn't helped us in recent years. Starting to get the impression that Dan likes projects so he can turn them around...

While I'm pleased that we're able to get some quality ATHLETES back into the program, I'm definitely NOT pleased to see "non-qualifiers" signing with us. I keep remembering the kid from Shaw (Harwell)...who was a HECK of a player that I had a chance to see up close and personal several times.... No grades, no play is a waste of time and effort on the part of coaches and the kids.
I just wish that we had more stringent signing rules...would rather see quality student/athletes play, than waste time and effort on "athletes"....and I too, am surprised that this kid still hasn't qualified after a year in prep school in addition to his high school career.
Number 1--We don't know the details of his academic situation.
Number 2--Think of a kid named Keith McCloud.
Salsa,
Good point, but don't think that Keith needed another year in prep school and STILL hadn't qualified. Just concerned that we're focusing on a talented BASKETBALL player who might NEVER play for us.

Hmmmm -- I can't remember anybody named Keith McCloud
Time will tell if Knight is the same caliber person that Keith is.

True, but how much time, energy, and money went into his recruitment? In this case, from the reviews on this kid it seems to me like it is definitely worth the risk. I just am not getting a fuzzy feeling about him ever stepping on the court here.

Also how much time will be lost next year when we could be recruiting kids that actually will PLAY in '07-'08. How many of those kids that are available will be taken up by other schools by the time we find out whether Knight is ever ready to play?
This kid seems like he's a very talented player, so it could all be worth the risk, it certainly was with McLeod. Still, it seems as though we've taken a lot of these guys recently with mixed results. Wright, Moten, Harwell, and Sullivan all come to mind. Is it normal for MAC teams to take that many partial or non qualifiers?
