Beat me to it. It's a shame that we had to get to the second page for level (or at least, on edit, cooler) heads to prevail.
I have no problem with taking the risk, I'm just not optimistic that it will pay off. Like I said before, I hope the kid can work his tail off and prove me wrong.

Keith, like Moten, was a partial qualifier. They are allowed to practice from the beginning and can join the team after the first semester is over if their grades are sufficient.
Knight is rumored to be, like Sullivan or Harwell, a non-qualifier. They are not allowed to practice with or participate in team activities. They are not eligible to join the team until after their freshman season is over (if their grades are sufficient), and they come in right away as Sophomores. If they graduate in 4 years they are usually granted an additional year back to make up for the year they had to sit.
I'm not sure what the guidelines are from HS grades to put people in which category, but that's the difference, as I understand it.
Wright was definitely a partial qualifier. I believe Sullivan was as well. Reggie Harwell was a non-qualifier. I believe Maurier Angui would have been as well, had he stayed. Both Keith McLeod and Moten were actually full qualifiers, however, not until very late.
Both partial qualifiers and non-qualifiers have to sit out a full year. Both can potentially get the fourth year of eligibility back (as Wright had qualified for). The biggest difference is that partial qualifiers can be on scholarship during the year they sit out, and can practice with the team at their home facility (they can't travel) that year. The non-qualifier can do neither until after they sit out the full year, and then only if in good academic standing.
Since the Blade article states Knight won't be on scholarship next year (and BG has no open ones that we are aware of anyway), it seems apparent that he is going to be a non-qualifier. I believe he can work out with players on the team next year, but he will not be allowed to participate in formal practice.
I don't remember all the details behind Keith missing the fall semester, but he did end up being a full qualifier before attending classes at BG. However, it happened rather late and quite frankly he also tried to back out of his letter of intent to BG at one point.
I'm very happy to hear about all these guys coming to BG. This is just great news. But, with that said, I'll be much, much happier if they stay and experience success as a Falcon. We've always been able to bring them to BG, it's been keeping them there that's been the problem the last five years. Man I hope those days as behind us now.

Here are a few issues I see with the Chris Knight signing:
1. What is the contigency plan if he qualifies over the summer?
2. With Wright leaving, that leaves three players who will (hopefully) graduate and consequently allow us to recruit three players for 07/08. However, with Knight signing now, he is more or less "gray-shirting" to steal a football recruiting term and taking a scholarship in the 07/08 recruiting class. Here are the implications: Presently, the only PG we have on the "projected" 07/08 roster is walk-on Brian Guerin. We have 4 projected SGs (assuming Sims is a SG) and 3 projected SFs with the addition of Knight and three projected "PFs." Knight become eligible leaving us with 2 scholarships and no returning PGs. Otis Polk will be the only "true" returning post prescence we have as well. So by having Knight sign now, we leave ourselves exposed not now, but a year from now, when we have 2 open scholarships to find 2 Freshmen (or JUCO) point guards to play on a team with one senior (Hamblet) on it.
I certainly hope our friend from Ft. Wayne was wrong, or Darryl Clements can figure out how to run the point or this Hamblet kid pays off, b/c Dan has left himself or his successor in a rather sticky situation a year from now.
At the 5 – Leifeld (Academic scholarship), Larson, Polk
At the 4 – Marshall, Miller, Sullivan
At the 3 – Rad, Hamblet, Samarco
At the 2 – Sims, Moten, Clemens
At the 1 – Floyd, Guerin
Some guys could flip i.e. Marshall to the 5 or Floyd to the 2 etc.
That’s 13 athletic scholarships one academic.
What I understand is Larson has a 4 point average in high school and Polk 3.6 so there maybe another academic scholarship there for another recruit
Our weakest positions last year, the 5 & 4 will be our strongest this year.
Our weakest position this year will be the 2 with Moten and Clemens shooting a combined 28% from the 2 point range, 23% from 3 point range and a 48% from the foul line. To that we add Sims, class 2A ball player that, according to one of his coaches can’t dribble or shoot!
All in all a much better looking team without, I hope, the players that distracts from the TEAMS success.
You cannot just give academic scholarships to players that you recruit, it doesn't work that way, if it did we'd never get a recruit because the big schools would have 30 kids on academic scholarship every year.
As for the roster all I know is that if Floyd/Guerin is your PG rotation you are praying for .500 and anything above that is a miracle.

I'm comfortable predicting very little for the upcoming season. However, the one thing I am comfortable predicting is that we'll see Floyd play at least 32 minutes per game.
hamm is correct, just as you can't give a baseball scholarship to a football player, BUT there are some exceptions and I surly don't know what all of them are. For example, if you have a kid that plays both football and baseball, he is automatically counted as a football scholarship towards their 85 limit if he receives ANY scholarship money. He can NOT be on half baseball and half football, and this applies to any major sport like football, basketball etc, because their entire roster (85 football and 13 in basketball) by NCAA standards is on scholarship. This idea kept the "big" schools from using their minor sport scholarships to bring in 120 scholarship football players and working around the limit of 85. I am sure someone can explain it better, but that is the general idea.

I don't understand why you are down on Guerin as back up point. He was doing well last year until he got sick and lost 15 lbs.
He can handle a ball, shoot 3's and make foul shots which killed us last year.
He can also dunk which, according to some posters, makes him athletic.
If he is that bad why didn't we get a PG this year.
And please...don't say Clements at point that's just dumb
