BG loses to Akron, again, on a walk-off homer, again

Post by BGSU33 »

CRAP!!! For the second time in three games in the BG/Akron series, BG loses a game on a walk-off home run with two outs to Akron. The exact same thing happened in game one. We had multiple chances to add runs again today, but stranded runners after Akron errors and we couldn’t make them pay for it. Instead, they made us pay with for our inability to take advantage of their mistakes. We also only managed three hits for the game. Akron had only won two MAC games all year and equaled that total in this series. Heck, for that matter, they only won seven games overall before this series. BG has not won a weekend MAC series on the road yet either, going 1-2 in all of them. This weekend we just couldn't close out the games we needed to. In game one we we led 4-0 in the seventh, but gave up a run in the 7th, three more in the 8th and three more in the 9th on a two-out, three-run, walk-off homer. On Sunday, we led 2-0 in the eighth and gave up a run in the 8th and then three more in the 9th, again, on a two out, three-run, walk-off homer. We were an out away in each game from a weekend sweep, instead, we lose two of three. I tip my hat to Akron, but this was a bad weekend for BG. We'd better get ready for what lies ahead now with a good Miami team up next and then the MAC's best team and red-hot Kent State to follow.

Just got home from the Zip-BG game. Question: Why in the world would your pitcher, with first base open, throw Akron's number three hitter, a fastball on 3-1 count?????

I’m not sure, I thought I saw the Akron batter was 0-3 on the day before that plate appearance, so maybe he thought he could draw an out at that at-bat. None the less, it didn’t work. But congratulations on the win today, and the series win as well. I hope Akron can now hand a few other MAC East schools some losses. My best friend is an Akron grad, and I’m sure he’ll be quick to remind me of how poorly BG has been against Akron in men’s sports this year. BG lost at home to Akron in football, was swept in basketball, lost in soccer, lost a series in baseball….I’m not sure we’ve beaten the Zips in anything in men’s sports except for one game in baseball this year.

BG loses again

Post by BG65 »

The hitter in question was the MAC Freshman player of the year last season. The pitcher in question is coming off arm problems and is limited as to what he can throw!!

We got there in the middled of the 4th inning....tight game all the way.
Leaving the bases loads in the 8th and not scoring killed BG. There was only 1 out at the time. I told Dana we needed to score there and get some distance.

Give credit to the Zips....they've had a rough a year and yet played hard in 2 of the 3 games.

33,
Yesterday's loss is a big one...Kent State is 11-4 MAC and BG is 9-6.

Notre Dame up next.

Yeah, we had bases loaded with one out in the eighth and didn't plate a run, and then one inning later in the ninth we again had a runner on third with one and stranded him too. You've gotta plate a run in those cases, and in Akron's case, they did twice in big ways. Just like in basketball or football where every possession can count in certain games, baseball is no exception. Both of the games Akron won, they had two outs in the bottom of the ninth and hit walk-off home runs. BG was one out away in both of those games from a sweep. We just couldn’t close out either game and it’s no ones particular fault. We couldn’t push across runs when we needed them down the stretch and we couldn’t get the big last out. Oh well, as you can say a million times about things in the game…..”that’s baseball.”
