Annual Shut Down at Ice Arena

Post by pdt1081 »

Well, it's the month of May already and time for the annual shut down of the Ice Arena. Any guesses on what improvements are taking place?

Why would they enlarge the surface? It's already regulation sized and I, for one, was never a fan of Olympic sized ice.

That was inevitable....our boards were way too stiff and no longer met NCAA safety requirements. It's an improvement, but one that, I believe, was forced on us as opposed to one we made to improve the arena in general.

Re-painting, maybe the "sexier" Falcon logo at center ice.

Olympic surface...makes all the difference.

Post by FalconBlue »

At the Torino 2006 Winter Olympics the Swedish Ice hockey team won Gold, the Finns Silver and the Czech Republic beat Russia for the Bronze medal. All these teams emphasize skating skills above physical play and skate on the larger ice surface. The wide open ice gives them an advantage over our teams when they skate on the larger "Olympic" ice.
I believe this is born out in the NHL with the change in rules, just look at the number of non-North Americans making an impact in the NHL Playoff games because they are skaters. In Europe most players grow up skating on Olympic size ice and the transition to our smaller surfaces is not a problem. It is not quite the same going the other way, from small to large.

Just an opinion.
If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back now and then to make sure it's still there.

The retail head???? I will be pissed if they put that at center ice. They need to stick with the traditional one, outlined or not!! This is a major rant with me..... :smt091

I agree, but they really do need to do something about the center-ice design. Quite frankly, it has been pretty damned lame over the past couple of years.

No, I meant the one in my signature. We need more brown!

I'd like to see the stats/penalty box area rennovated so when more than one guy goes in it's not a 2 minute process to figure out what order they go in and so the stat guys aren't climbing over walls.

I'd love to see the Ice Arena get a name and develop a logo for it to put at center ice.

"Blake's Barn"
"Holzy's House"
"York Ice Arena"

A lot of talk over the years has happened regarding naming the arena. I have always thought they should name it after Sam Cooper, but with the pool already named after him, doubt if they would do that.

And Bleeding....the center ice design is LAME???? It's our freakin' LOGO....You're calling the traditional Falcon Head Logo LAME???? BLASPHEMY!! SHAME ON YOU!!!! [-X :smt021 :smt093 (....I'm guessing you forgot your meds today???)

Do I have to come over there? Design, babe. Design. All the kids are talking about it these days. Its the new Coke II.

All I was saying was that we could do a better job of designing the center ice area which includes our traditional Falcon logo.

I swear, if you ever accuse me of blasphemy of this ilk again, BGFan and I are going to have to talk... :P

How about we rename the Ice Arena to "Rob Blake's (old) House"?
