Turner to sit out Wisconsin Game

Post by da3mite »

I hope the link works. I'm sorry if someone already posted this.

When I saw this article I was pretty happy because he needed to be disciplined. Now, this gives a chance for another, younger QB to show his stuff.

One line I didn't like by Musselman in the article is that he says: "It turns out the Wisconsin game is probably the best one for Turner to serve his suspension. That's a nonconference game the Falcons have almost no chance of winning anyway". :?

I hope the Falcons show him.

Good for Brandon -- I know I feel better.

This now begs the questions, who will be the QB? It would almost have to be Barnes, even though most said he looked pretty bad as a passer in the Spring game. Should be an interesting game plan against Wisky. Lots of options and our little QB read runs I would think.

It sucks for the team on that day, no doubt, but I absolutely think it's the right thing to do for the long term betterment of the group.

As for our QB, I'm not ruling out one of the incoming freshman if they impress this summer. Freddie Barnes looked very, very bad in the spring game. Maybe it was just a bad day for him, but his passes were all over the place.

I don't think we have much of a shot against Wisky with or without Turner, so it's not a big deal to me.

I think the best case scenario for us is if Barnes can be a quality receiver, and one of the freshman is smart enough to be a capable QB against Wisky, and then a capable backup the rest of the year. I really hope Glaud is that guy.

The only thing I don't like about starting a freshman (assuming he can learn the offense), is that it blows his redshirt year for one game that we will be a heavy underdog in.

Hopefully AT will keep his head clear from now on...we certainly need him on the field.

At least it isn't a MAC game.

I support Coach Brandon in suspending Turner for the game. I am sure that the team has appropriate disciplinary procedures in place. I also hope Turner returns, plays well and, more importantly, raises his level of personal commitment to the team and Bowling Green State University.

We will have a QB on the field at 1 PM Sept 2 and I wish him all the best too. Freddie Barnes is an excellent athlete and will no doubt be excited about the opportunity. If one of the incoming feshmen prove that good that quick then I am sure we will play the best player.

In any event, I get very concerned when I read posts about whether it is worth (or words to that affect) buying tickets for this game. The other ninety players and the coaches did not cause us to lose one QB for the game. We need to support them. The game/weekend will be an event. This is a big, big game for Bowling Green. And Falcon fans from 8 to 88 need to be there. The very first college 1A game ever played in Browns Stadium deserves our support.

Some of my best memories are of traveling to big BG games at West Lafayette, Lexington, Chapel Hill, Birmingham, State College and so on. Some we won; quite a few we lost. But supporting my Falcons has been a great joy and I certainly hope even more Falcon fans will now be in Cleveland for this historic game.

In my view, this is a critical game for BG football going forward. The final score is very important to me too. But this type of "out of the box" thinking for scheduling etc is good for BG. And my friends and family will be there in force and cheering loudly.

Go Falcons!

seems they made a decision, I do not agree with it at all. But I believe in the coaches and thier leadership and if this is their choice on the matter that is fine by me...like I said we dont know all the details, and wont.
who knows, maybe one of the upcomers will take the job from AT and be a four year starter...that would be nice.

It just means he wouldn't be able to redshirt his freshman year. He could still redshirt his sophmore year if needed, and still probably get 2 good years out of him. So I don't think it is all that bad, just think Macon.

If I have one pet peeve it is to quantify your support for a BGSU team.

This is a good move for the team and a strong move for Brandon. Good for him.

I’m sad to see Turner won’t be playing, but I do think it’s the right thing to do. But it’s still a shame this all happened in the first place and it’s not the kind of decision making you want to see from your likely starting QB. What’s more, we’ve been hyped about this game ever since it was announced, and leading into it without our likely starting QB is a blow. But on the other hand, Turner didn’t exactly turn many heads when he played last year and we haven’t seen a guy like Barnes play in a regular season game yet, so this is a great opportunity for Freddie to go out there and let it all hang out and show what he can do. I also hope this serves as a real wake-up call for Anthony and hopefully sitting this one out will ignite the player who we have all hoped to see out of him when he returns. In the end, it could be a good thing and like some of you said, at least it’s not a MAC game – because those are the games that have tripped us up over the years in our quest for a MAC Championship.

I like FF1's post. On game day, you play with the team you have. End of story. I'll watch any game where both teams get stuck in, and I wouldn't fazed in the least if the Falcons got hammered while playing from their top drawer. The test here is whether BGSU can show up with a good crowd in its back yard, which is something a lot of people here can do something about. I know I'm looking for a reason to show up, with or without a full depth chart of quarterbacks.

RUIT.. you've been around here long enough.. and you're still surprised at the fairweatheredness of some fans? I'll cut him a bit of slack because he's a fan, and not a student/alumni, but you're right, it's beyond a pet peeve of mine to hear comments like that. :(

Dammit, if you make the trip from the UK, it makes my drive up from Indy look so much less impressive...
