I always wondered about the 15 yard knock on Brucie as well (but then again, it was Brucie from TU).

Hey - 15 yards is a first down. Enough of them and they get you into the end zone. Give me someone that can get me first downs and into the endzone. It doesn't have to be pretty, it just has to be effective. Bruce was effective.

Yeah, but didn't BG fans say that a certain kid named Bruce Gradkowski could only throw the ball 15 yards and he had a pretty damn good college career with a MAC Title and MAC Co-MVP Trophy despite RedWingTom telling us he had the arm of his grandmother. ;-)

Seriously though, don't knock Barnes just yet.
related to nothing, i went to the winking lizard in independence last night and seated at the table next to me was coach amstutz. everytime he blew his whistle, the servers brought another dozen wings.* very nice guy though, we exchanged pleasantries.

*not true.

I knew *that* wasn't true when you said he had to blow his whistle. Everyone knows that they just break out the conveyor belt to get Tommy his wings.

On a more serious note, he has lost about 25 pounds in the past couple of weeks. Let's hope he stays on the diet as a person's health is no joking matter.

i'm not gonna lie (i can put away some wings myself, so i certainly have no room to talk), but he did look, um, less big than usual. if i had realized that, i would've asked him for some pointers. 25 lbs every couple weeks...i could be at a healthy weight by independence day.

This, if Barnes has to be our starter, then chalk up the Wisky game as a guarateed 20 pt loss cuz our offense won't be worth dog crap. The only way I could ever see us competing in this game with Barnese at qb is if our o-line is otherworldly studly this year and can open up some massive holes for Barnes in the option and for Macon and Bobby Thomas out of the backfield. Our running game would have to be really dominate for us to have a chance , but I don't see that happening. The O-line should be good but it has to be way better than last year and better than the best it ever was back during Urban's first and second year.

The only thing I can see Barnes doing well is maybe running the ball. If he has to throw the ball more than 20 times, count on atleast 4 or 5 INT's.

It'll be a challenge, but really... shut the hell up already! :x

I think Barnes has less of a challenge winning the game then that happening.

he dont get on his back just because he isnt a homer. he's just stating the truth and unbias opinion which is found very sparatically on here.

There's a big difference between being a "homer" and the constant negative crap that flows from his mouth. Admittedly, I'm probably more positive about our teams than I should be at times, but I dont' have much of an issue with people that don't think we can get it done. As was proven last year, beating Wisconsin is a challenge with an incredible offense. Next year will be a much larger challenge, for sure.

But if not liking the constant "OMG! WE'RE F**KED!" attitude makes me a homer, then so be it.

I think Barnes will be ok. I hope he gets off to a good start, maybe get him some easy passes and hope to eek out some 1st downs. As weird as it sounds, I have seen some kids play way over their heads in their 1st game and I think it could happen here! Either way BG needs to play great D and ST's to be in the came in the 4Q. Then just ride the emotion from the crowd into a W.
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

I dunno, but if Barnes (or whoever) throws five picks in the game, I'll eat a bug, THEN hand deliver the Ryan Henry Achievement Award myself.
