Any word on our next AD?

Post by Germainfitch1 »

There has to be some names by now?

I have not thought about this in awhile so I have likely missed some topics about it....

Maybe Krebs will come back in a couple weeks citing that he found some possible sanctions with the athletic dept there and that i will be the best move for him and New Mexico and everybody involved if he came back.

In all seriousness, I don't like that it's this late in the game and the fans and community have absolutely no idea who will be the leader of the athletic program at such a critical stage in its development, or even who will *potentially* be the leader. Not one piece on information beyond vague speculation. Nothing.

I can understand not having "leaks" during the screening process done by the search firm as that would place administrators in uncomfortable positions with their existing employers.

However, this is still a public university and stakeholders (including, ahem, us alumni and fans...) have a right to be kept informed and given some idea of the progress of the search and the type of individuals being considered. Several D-I institutions, including our MAC bretheren, have conducted "town meeting" style gatherings with the finalists to allow them to interact with the community and media. At the very least, their names and histories have been shared with the fans, as was the case with Paul Krebs and the other New Mexico AD finalists.

I fully support a prompt process with June 1 as a starting date, but the complete blackout of information thus far from officials and those who know them is frustrating when so much is on the line for the athletic program and institution as a whole.

JoeFalcon:

I don't think it's necessarily required that the University be totally transparent and upfront about the whole process, it would be nice to see some effort by the local media to shed some light on the subject.

That being said, I can answer the thread's main question ~
Any word on our next AD?
Yes. It won't be me. :P

87: I completely agree, and that's why I'm not calling for complete transparency...just something, essentially anything beyond the current status, which is nothing.

The media could definitely be on top of this more than they have, but a press conference every few weeks or so would have been a way to get the message out effectively on their own terms. It's too big a decision to disppear in a proverbial cave and pop out 3 months later with the most pivotal and consequential person in BGSU athletics.

I have to say I agree with JoeFalcon here. I'm a bit miffed too at the total lack of any news on a possible candidate anywhere whatsover. I was hoping we'd have at least a vague general idea on who might be in the mix for the new AD job. Unless the University is really freaked out bout' letting anyone know who they might be after for some weird reason. We need to get the best AD we can get. The job is too important to not get the best person possible.

Yeah, but guys, what do you want Ribeau to say?

"We're reviewing applicants and will be interviewing people shortly."

That's all you'll get for now. Until they start bringing people to campus, they're not - nor should they be expected to - discuss names. It's just not the way things are done, nor should they be done.

Any reporter worth their salt should be able to dig up some potential names and get the public conversation started. Good grief, when Denny Stolz put the screws to BG in 1985, I remember doing a few pieces on his potential replacement. The University, of course, didn't say anything, but I got quite a few other folks talking.

Exactly , I don't expect Ribeau to say anything on who's being interviewed or not, but you'd think that some news on who might be in the hunt for this job would get out somewhere and so far ther's been squat on the matter. Leaks happen all the time , you'd think there'd be some by now.

Actually, it doesn't have to leak. All the applications submitted are public record, and it happens all the time that they are acquired. The real question is what do you think releasing the names publicly to you jokers is going to do to help us get the best AD?

With a June 1 starting date (which is absolutely the right time IMO), the process should be well beyond that point right now.

As for the standard operating procedure and manner in which these searches are conducted, Central Michigan, for example, put out this press release regarding the finalists:

http://cmuchippewas.cstv.com/genrel/111505aaa.html

The New Mexico process is another example of information being known in advance of the actual decision being made. There are countless other examples.

How quickly did we know that Jay Norvell was a candidate for the BG football job in 2001, or Alex Wood in 2003, or Anthony Solomon for the basketball job when Dakich briefly left?

Going weeks and months without any shred of information on the most important hire for BG athletics just doesn't sit well.

Yes, Hollywood has made the Freedom of Information Act rather well known.

Not to answer a question with a question, but how is completely isolating the fan base from any part of a decision of this magnitude beneficial to the athletic program?

We're not asking for a minute-by-minute account of the process, interview transcripts or veto power over President Ribeu's selection.

Just something.
