Preview of Next Year's Non-Conference Schedule

Post by BGSU96 »

I heard at the BiG Event that the Women will open up the season at Notre Dame, that they are scheduled to play at Temple and that they will be playing Duke in Cancun in late November or December. WOW, we will have some really tough non-league games next season, but if that doens't toughen us up for the MAC nothing will.

I talked to Coach Miller at the banquet and he said that we were playing Temple, Delaware and Indiana at home in Anderson Arena. He did mention the Cancun trip. Maybe things have changed since then. If not, what a non league schedule, both home and away we'll have next seaon. I can't wait.

I heard from on the players about going to Notre Dame and she thought the Temple game was going to be at Temple but she wasn't sure.

WHEN in November? May have to make a run south of the border.

Excellent!!!! Wow  , this schedule is a total wet dream. I love the teams we're getting at home too. Temple is usually is fairly good in basketball, Deleware (nice chance to repay them for the loss this past season) and Indiana all at home in Anderson, I can't contain myself!!! :smt026 \:D/

I dare anybody now to say we have weak schedule!

These posts on the women's bball schedule got me to checking on some things. Next year's team should be tremendous and I know we have been looking to toughen our schedule. I think a strong but balanced schedule positions us better for post season success as do most of our fans. According to their statements, our coaches feel the same way.

Based on info I have been able to put together, talking to folks at other schools, looking at schools returning home games to us and vice versa and talking to a person who has some notion as to our tentative nonconference schedule, I think our probable nonconference schedule will roughly look like this:

Home

Temple
Indiana
Oakland
Delaware
Robert Morris

These teams were all post season teams except RM which won about 20 games. This would be an incredible home noncon schedule.

Road

Notre Dame
Detroit
St Bonaventure

Looks like we continue to have strong relationships with eastern schools. The Notre Dame game is big as in HUGE, but already talked about in other posts.

The Cancun tournament (as mentioned above) will be tough but I don't think any pairings have been made. With Duke, SMU and Pitt in it, there could be some very tough games down South.

It looks like our last couple games will be at the Central Florida holiday tourney. My Orlando guys tell me the women will be in Disney country. The NCAA has added two more games which should give us 13 noncon games. There must be another road game yet to be uncovered.

In any event, this is by FAR overall our toughest nonconference schedule ever in the Miller era in my opinion- or maybe ever.

Should get the team ready. And we should have plenty of season tickets and fan inteerest with the likes of Temple, Indiana and Delware coming to town. Thta's some pretty good teams at AA. Should get loud.

Go Falcons!

I do not believe Kentucky is returning a game to AA this year. I am not sure if they are in the future. I certainly wouldn't see us playing at UK two years in a row.

It shapes up as a super schedule and we should expect excellent crowds for the home noncon games- especially Indiana and Temple. The exact date will have some influence but those are, arguably, the biggest nonconference games in our arena for our women in many years.

It was announced at the banquet that the home game with Temple is the Friday after Thanksgiving. I think it should draw well since Temple is coached by Dawn Staley. She is retiring as a player at the end of the present WNBA season and has been on the Olympic gold medal squads.

falwombball, thanks for that Temple date. That is indeed a high profile coach in Staley. Everyone around BG will need to be there for that one. We will not have the luxury of our student body for this big game as they will (primarily) be home for the Thanksgiving holiday.

There are only so many dates when games can be arranged and I am sure we did our best. In any event, our true orange more local student fans will be there. And I would expect a very large turnout of Falcon Faithful for the reasons you stated.

Go Falcons!
