When BG beats Wisconsin...

while AT is fast and has had the exposure. i would rather see coach go with whom ever he sees as our best fresh qb. it would be very nice to have that consistancy in that pos for four years. yes a fresh could well struglle his first year, but we woulsd be more apt to have 3 better years. VS what ever at can produce this year, which will doubtfull be any better than what a fresh can do.

Yes he did. Many UT fans, myself included, thought that he was going to turn out to be a bust because of that and we made it clear on the message boards. Boy were we wrong and most of us definitely learned our lesson from that. NEVER judge a book by its cover.BGDrew wrote:If I remember correctly, Omar had a pretty bad Spring Game before his Sophomore season too.falconboy wrote:How so? Really how so? Barnes , no offense is nothing more than a spindley option qb at best. He's nowhere near AT's level of a throwing qb who's nowhere near Omar's throwing ability and accuracy when he' was a rs sophmore. Barnes at probably 6'1 and 180lbs isn't going to do much in the passing game , I'm positive. I'm hoping for the best no doubt. But from what I've seen from Barnes this spring game doesnt' give me much hope. So go ahead and call me a pessimest.San Diego Falcon wrote:the "count on 4 or 5 interceptions" crap is over the line

Wrong again RF...must we rehash this again. Omar's spring game was fine by all accounts if you take away two drops that would have been TD's. Please stick to being a Toledo football expert.rocketfootball wrote:Yes he did. So are you going to tell BGDrew he's wrong for also saying Omar had a pretty bad spring game as well. (and by pretty bad I'm sure he meant more than two dropped balls)Redwingtom wrote:Wrong again RF...must we rehash this again. Mid-2000's Anderson Animal
Uh........were you at the Ball State game in 2003?? We had built a 2 TD lead behind J5 and Coach Brandon brought Omar into the game for a couple series. He was as awful as awful can be. Picture Van Johnson versus Kent State last year. Sacked once, ran the option several times with no success, and the only pass he threw was a screen pass. Combine that performance with what I thought was a very average performance in the spring game 2004, and I was quite concerned going into the '04 season. He looked great against the I-AA's in 2003, but those performances should be thrown out of the equation. Obviously, Omar did fine in '04 and '05.falconboy wrote:Uh........what are you talking about??I could tell from the very beginnng that Omar was going to be better than Josh as a pure passing qb goes. The way Omar carried himself and handled himself in the pocket , he then looked like a guy who had been starting a long time. AT or Barnes look just the opposite. They both look lost and confused most of the time. Dont see how that will suddenly change by this fall. It could but turnarounds in confidence and poise don't come around that quickly, it usually takes several years. AT is a guy that in a perfect situation should be taking over in his junior year , but we don't have that luxury anymore that Omar left the NFL.
Will AT be in Omar's league eventually? I don't know, but I know that I am about as confident in AT going into the '06 season as I was with Omar in '04.

Sure...he is wrong too...just ask most objective spectators who were actually at the game...I know RF was certainly not there.PGY Tiercel wrote:So are you going to tell BGDrew he's wrong for also saying Omar had a pretty bad spring game as well. Be honest ladies and gentleman, does anyone really give a crap how we felt about Omar's chances in the srpring of 2004? Does our perception of Omar in 2004 have any real bearing on the prosdpects of Freddie barnes doing well against Whisky...assuming it's Barnes that plays QB.
I will say this, if Turner doesn't learn how to make a decision with the football more quickly, he maynot be playing much QB here either.

Jacobs finished 19-for-36 for 236 yards with two interceptions
One of the interceptions was when he was being sacked and basically lost the football. And I remember at least one TD being dropped and one pass that could have led to a TD being dropped. Those could have put him over 300 years in passing.

I know...and that's a very legitimate point to make. I guess I'm just trying to jerk the conversation back to a more substantive line of discussion than how well we liked Omar back in May of '04.orangeandbrown wrote:Flip, I think its just meant to demonstrate that sometimes a guy can player better in the fall (ie, improve) over his prevous play.
