2006-2007 Hockey Schedule Posted!!

Post by Falcon Fanatic »

It's out earlier than it has been in a LONG time!!

http://bgsufalcons.cstv.com/sports/m-ho ... 06aac.html

Good news is that after the team gets back from that hideous trip to Alaska (ugh!), they DON'T have to play the weasels or the egg suckers!! That's an improvement from past schedules!! We might actually be able to take the family to a nearby Christmas tourney this year....in COLUMBUS!! WOOOO-HOOOO!! .....of course, my luck, my son's team will have a tourney in Cleveland (or some place far from C-bus) at the same time! :?

GO HOCKEY!!
CAN'T WAIT TO DROP THE PUCK, BABY!!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Not saying good or bad - all eastern teams out of conference, none fom the WCHA. Actually it's been awhile (I remember sweeping No Dak in 91?) and Miiny D in a X-mas tourney a few years ago but besides that?? I wonder if Buddy (RPI) and Scott (BC) have input for picking the eastern teams.

I like turkey day on the road - better to save the home games (IMO) when the students are around.

A quick glance of the schedule as an out-of-towner shows just one "weekend doubleheader" with football, the first "real" game of the season on 10/13, the night before the EMU game.

On the bright side, it's Homecoming, maybe they'll start the year with a packed house. In fact, to allow us all to put our marketing caps on, I think it would be a great idea to work a deal with a local hotel or three that weekend. Discounted stay Friday night if you buy tickets to both games, perhaps? Buy one-get one free tickets if you buy tickets to both games at the same time? TG gets in free with the showing of his...

...student ID? :-D

I guess there is one other "weekend DH"... something about the first weekend in December.

And yet again, we have to travel to Omahaha. Geez, wouldn't it be nice if they had to come this way 2 years in a row--like we have done many times?

Me still like. Don't get me wrong, I love competition but those guys have had our number. Hopefully last year's monkey-killing was a sign of good to come.

That's because they are in our cluster. We have to play them 4 times. I understand what FindlayFalcon is saying.....it sucks how many times we have had to travel out there compared to the number of times they have been here. Mostly we just hate DUH mavs for MANY reasons!! (AJ comes to mind quickly! )

I don't like how the Yost game is on a Tuesday night. That's gonna be a heck of a road trip back from Athens to get to that one! Grrrr....

At least we don't have any other weekday conference games. Those Thursday games last year didn't work.

But the Windsor game is on Thursday :(

Looking at the rest of the schedule, it seems like a much better balance between home and away games. It seemed like last season had a home game almost every weekend the first half of the season. It looks like they alternate every other weekend for the most part all season. We also have home and homes with MSU and scUM only.

There are really only two concerns I have with the schedule. The first is the quality and locations of our out of conference games. UCONN and Alabama-Huntsville at the beginning of the season could be a good warmup for Providence/Boston College, but they could hurt us at the end of the season in the Pairwise. A loss (god forbid) to UCONN in the first game (cleaning off the rust) could prove to be very costly in morale and pairwise comparisons. Having played 6 home non-conference games last year might have hurt us in getting home games for a year or two. It was great seeing that much hockey, but I see us on the road a lot for two years or so.

The second concern I have is the Ohio Classic. It's great to be playing in Ohio for the holidays, but we're guaranteed at least one non conference game against a CCHA opponent. More than likely, we will play Miami in the first game with OSU playing UMD in the second. I have never been a fan of playing conference opponents in non conference games. There is so much more exposure that comes with playing out of conference teams (sports writers, fans, etc) that it's worth it to travel for holiday tournaments.

I agree with you on this one. In the past they have purposely NOT scheduled tourney games that include other CCHA teams so that we get to play against different teams from the other conferences. We NEVER play in the GLI for this reason. That, and we certainly don't want to play the weasels or egg suckers at the Joe, which is like home ice for both of them!! This surprised me when I saw the Ohio Classic on the schedule.
