Wait, I thought we were giving all the materials to Toledo so they can build a practice facility.

Didn't you get the memo?
That makes sense. I've never seen a builder pampering himself with suntan lotion. Then again, now the roof's on, I don't see any builders. Moonlighting in Toledo, huh?

Actually, there has been a lot of improvements to the stadium over the past few years, including new railings, new bench seating, new scoreboard and sound system, renovated luxury boxes, to name some of them. Once the Sebo is finished, it will allow the inside offices, locker rooms etc, to be refurbished etc. I don't think "J. Crew Stadium" has anything on Perry at all, and it wasn't long ago that you were still trying to read that silly circular game clock!!!

Also, lights, new ticket booths, handicapped seating platforms, etc. As with much of the things at BG, old stereotypes die hard. I looked and looked during the spring game and could not find one shread of the exposed rebar that is so commonly referred to by outsiders. But according to RF, the press box does not have a 7 course buffet for his lard butt so our stadium does truly suck.

Sure, the Doyt still needs some work but it is soooooooo much better than just 5 years ago.

There are other MAC stadiums in much worse condition than the Doyt.

The Doyt is much nicer than it was a few years ago, but it does still need some work, of course.

Honestly, my biggest beef with the stadium is that the scoreboard they put in is too small to be useful, IMO. It's an improvement over the old one, for sure, but seems way too small for the size of stadium.

The only thing I noticed at the Spring game was in the northeast corner there were large chunks of concrete and exposed rebar in the seats. If a kid would of dropped some of the concret over the side it would have killed someone. This is something that needs to be addressed.

I've never had a harder time getting to seats then I have at Perry Stadium, and I've been part of a lot of the biggest games in BG's history... the walkways are non-existent... the concession stands couldn't be in a worse location unless they were in the bathrooms... the pitch of the stadium isn't nearly steep enough... I know there have been improvements at the stadium, but I wonder if those aren't just band-aids for what will be a major issue in 10-15 years... money well spent... or money down the drain?

J. Crew Stadium has a nice ring to it... thanks for the suggestion!

I don't care for the slope of our stadium either. I prefer sitting way up high. ANd the slope of our seating is the reason our place is so often compared to a high school stadium. There is a lot of seating in there, but it is deceptively low-slung.

But I don't think the arc of our seats it's much different than the pitch of the lower deck of Cleveland Browns Stadium (to take one excample).

As far as the walkways -- these are only an issue for really big games (at least on the east side). When the place sells out, I agree, it is an issue trying to get to your seat.

The walkway issue is solvable. Here is what I would do with Bill Gates' money:

-- Build a second tier (not a deck, a tier) of seats along each sideline. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a big set of seating
-- Convert what is now the top of the stadium into a wide aisle to move traffic around up there. The walkway would have access to seating both below and above.
-- Build ramps below so people can walk right up to that upper walkway.

That would solve the crunch on the existing tunnels for big games. I think it could be done without placing any of the weight of the new construction on the existing stadium. And this project could be integrated with a push for more luxury seating, should the university decide it needs it. (From what I understand, the boxes are always sold).

An alternative would be to just widen the aisles on each end of the sideline seating, create a wider aisle at the top and direct more traffic to the ends and on up.

As far as the placement of the concessions: I think they put it under the stands as a way to keep the rain off those volunteers' heads. It certainly could be placed out by the chain link fence -- it's just a matter of spending money on something that would keep the rain off the food. I agree this ought to be done, but it isn't a big issue costwise.

Sebo Update

Post by Sweets9 »

Floors are being poured as we speak...well actually they're finishing them right now. Basically the entire inside of the Sebo (main floor) has a shiney concrete finish.

And comparing the Doyt to Yager stadium is laughable. Come on guys, it's not even close. I hate Miami as much as the rest of you, but they have us beat in that aspect.

I don't hate BG... I do hate UT... I don't Hate OU, it isn't a rivalary until you beat us.... I hate UC... I understand the disgust with Miami, but I think that alot of BG posters on this boards know Miami and we aren't really all that bad... but whatever... BG has Miami in Basketball and I hope when Anderson arena is replaced that they build a louder building... because its already defeaning and a great place to watch game regardless of what others say... .

I always want BG to do things the right way instead of the cheap way... and the SEBO is a great start!! I hope BG will one day knock down the west stands and build a nice 60 row high pitched home side... with two levels of suites, and a president's level to boot... Love the lights... love the start of what could be something great...

I hope BG can capture the imagination of NWO...

and I hope that BG players stop making dumb decisions...

You can really start to see the curvature of the roofline today. They've been attaching the beams all morning.
