Agreed. If only because it seems the WVU guy has worked his way up through different avenues, at different schools, it gives me a sense that he's a desired commodity and has seen it done a few different ways. I don't get that from the guy that works his way up through the same system, though there's definitely something to be said for getting the job done that way, too.PGY Tiercel wrote:On reading the article I think I like the guy from WVU better. I also think that if he has been a key person in raising revenues 60% at WVU, that is a bigger deal than raising money for Purdue. I see more similarities between WVU and BG in terms of raising money than Purdue and BG.TG1996 wrote:

What looks good:
1. As has been noted, both finalists have extensive backgrounds in development and marketing. Raising money and attracting fans should be the top two priorities of the department right now, and thankfully that has been addressed.
2. Both come from institutions where it's not necessarily easy to raise money. West Virginia is, well, West Virginia, and Purdue is moderately successful in the major sports and competes with both Indiana and Notre Dame in state. Ohio recently hired the top development guy from Oklahoma, but how hard is it to raise money at the flagship state program with the football team competing for national championships every year? Doing more with less is the mark of a great fundraiser.
3. Both are young and appear to be enthusiastic and ambitious. That's exactly what's needed to compete in the present day MAC environment on the field and off the field.
What concerns me just a bit:
1. As has been noted, their youth might work to their disadvantage in terms of asserting their authority and expectations with staff and most importantly coaches. Will they have the fortitude to speak frankly with the strong personalities that currently occupy the head coaching positions? Will they have the guts to make the tough decision to dismiss an underperforming coach, as Krebs did time after time? We can't be certain.
2. Development is priority 1 and 1A as it should be, but sport specific administrative experience and management experience is a bit light for both. While our budget isn't huge, and support staff are in place to handle administrative matters, it would be helpful to have a solid management track record as well.
Overall, I'm ecstatic that the names have been released and a decision is forthcoming given the fact I have been pressing this hard on the forum for weeks. Both candidates are sleepers who don't have a high profile, a pattern reminiscent of some of our most successful head coaching hires. Let's get this done and start a new chapter in BGSU athletics.

Paul Krebs did pretty good as a young guy in the profession.JoeFalcon wrote:What concerns me just a bit:

Paul Krebs is also 49 years old and never had to fire coaches before he came to BG 7 years ago. I'm more excited than anyone about these candidates, but it's something to consider.transfer2BGSU wrote:Paul Krebs did pretty good as a young guy in the profession.JoeFalcon wrote:What concerns me just a bit:

With both being so ingrained in development and fundraising, what does naming these 2 as finalists mean for Seeliger? Was that not his role at BG?
It won't mean much of anything to Seeliger. Paul was also very much involved in raising money (as are all AD's). However, the AD has many other things on his or her plate, so someone in charge of "Development" will always be necessary. Scott isn't going anywhere.

I heard that all of the coaches are going to meet with the candidates when they come here. I think that's a good thing.JoeFalcon wrote:What concerns me just a bit:

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Holy crap this is awesome!!!!!! Its actually someone that I know of! Being born and raised in West Lafayette all 19 years of my life and being smothered with Purdue football information as a HS athlete I can personally say that Greg Christopher would be an excellent fit for BG! BOILER THE F*CK UP!!!!!!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
I think they seem to be sharp candidates. What BGSU needs is somebody that can work like a coolie to raise money, and get visibly hyped about Falcon sports. Krebs was a nice guy, but he didn’t exactly strike you as a “high energy” personality. The work that is ahead of the department is the kind that will require a different kind of effort that what we have seen before. These guys seem to understand what kind of work needs to be done.
Paul was a fine candidate that appealed to the locals in BG. These days, we need somebody that is going to really excite the majority of donor and prospective game attendees which are hours away from town.
