Very good post, Todd.
I think I might have been a bit to, um, brief(?) with my comment about "anyone that gets credentialed and shows up". I know that most of the media at that event are long time veterans of covering their respective schools, but I also know there is alot of inexperience there that just ramble off their ballot to whatever sounds good. I think its a pretty solid move on your part to not vote if you didn't feel comfortable in knowing the entire league as well as you had hoped, but I know when I was there as a student broadcaster, they put a ballot in front of me and it was like "hell yeah! my vote is gonna count for this thing!" And while I tried to break it down as seriously as I could, there were times when I thought "Well, that RB from Akron said he would run for 2,000 yards...and he had a nice tie on....seemed like a nice guy... we'll put them 3rd." Fortunately, I was there in the early to mid '90s before the doldrums hit, so it wasn't far fetched for me to put BG at the top, but I could see if a student from Kent State had his golden-colored glasses on, and thought that "if they beat Miami(OH), and can hang with Marshall...they could finish first! yeah! I'll vote them first!", that could explain the first place vote for Kent State. That is what I meant by "anyone" at that event.
I was also wondering as I read your post, while knowing you're extremely busy with prep work and such during the season, but it would be great to hear your perspective throughout the season. I don't know if you've checked around the new site, but Grant is implementing "columnists" to write more formatted articles. If it would be possible, and not conflict with anything you may have going on contractually, a "voice from the booth" could be a great addition for the weekly Falcon fix!
Keep up the great work!
(Oh yeah... you guys aren't possibly working on an affiliate in Indianapolis yet, are ya? *laugh*)

Good to hear from ya Todd! Thanks for the info. Looking forward to the season like never before. Of course I say that every year.
I'm one of the most optimistic fans out there. I will stand by my prediction of 9-2, 7-1 MAC with the West Title repeat and a victory in the MACC.
GO FALCONS!!!!! 30 days to go....BEAT THE SOONERS!!!

I just want everybody to think about what I'm going to say. I mean I like the idea. You know how they have a pre-season poll and everything?? Well i dont think that they should have one. I know I am gonna get some bad comments. But say in some great miracle more than half of the Top 25 preseason teams get beat, you could say that the system is messed up? It's just something that I have thought of.
Go Falcons!

we had another thread that got off topic and we were talking about this. Preseason polls are dumb. Yeha you can predict the outcome, (liek us being 3rd etc) but op 25 polls shouldnt occur for several weeks into the season for the very reason you suggest. Teams can ride out that top 10 preseason ranking for at least 2 losses proveded they arent too horrible.

The polls are not accurate, but fun. Still, I think the BGSUs of the world would gain from no polls for the first four or five weeks.
But it would deny the media their easy means of creating news. They could do so without it, but they won't if they don't have too.
