BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, for the second consecutive year, has a nationally-ranked recruiting class. The online magazine Soccer Buzz has rated the Falcons' 2006 recruiting class 10th in the Great Lakes Region and 70th in the country.
BGSU is the highest-rated Mid-American Conference school, as well as the lone MAC institution to be listed in the national top 100, for the second-straight year. Within the state, only Ohio State (fourth in the region, 32nd nationally) and Dayton (seventh, 60th) were ranked higher than the Falcons.
A total of five conference schools were regionally ranked, as Ball State was 17th and Central Michigan 18th in the Great Lakes Region, with Eastern Michigan (20th) and Ohio (24th) also listed. There are a total of 55 schools in the Great Lakes Region.
Last year, the Falcons' recruiting class was ranked 14th in the region and 94th in the country.
The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards finished the 2005 season with an overall record of 14-7-2, including a 9-2-0 mark in conference play. The Brown and Orange won the first MAC regular-season title in program history, then captured the league tournament and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season.
BG lost nine seniors from that '05 squad, and Richards and the Falcons will welcome a total of 14 newcomers to the squad in 2006."
Wow, this pretty awesome.
