Can't say that I totally disagree with the inexperienced evaluation...but it seems hard to believe that a schedule that includes OSU and Wisconsin is the 14th WEAKEST in the country...perhaps it says more about the East Div. of the MAC....where are Kent,Buffalo etc. ranked in terms of THEIR schedules? Oh right, they have to play BG, Akron and Miami.
Since our darling year in 2003 the MAC has just been BRUTAL OOC. As a result I think the conference has really tarnished whatever image it had in '03 when we had some big wins. If I'm a big BCS team right now NIU, and MAYBE Toledo, are the only teams that are scaring me at all coming into this season.
SoS is why I was so down on our performance last year. We finished at 6-5, which seems mediocre, but our SoS was so bad I thought we were much worse than your average 6-5 team. The overall suckiness of the MAC is also the reason why we still have a legit shot at competing for the title this year.
I hate to say it, but the conference has definitely taken about 5 steps back in the past 2 years.

Or better yet, just kick the damn ball outta the end zone every time and make the other team drive 80 yards to score.
Ellis seems to have the leg to do that...

Den - you and hammb are spot on. We have Kent, Temple and Buffalo on our schedule, which drops our SOS right down the tank. The MAC really needs to step up OOC, otherwise, 2003 will be seen as fluke, at best.
Hey, look at me! I'm all over the InterWebs! Facebook ~ Twitter @ CoachKarlPA ~ LinkedIn
I really don't think that people think 2003 was a fluke. Down here in North Carolina I remember coming home for breaks and people were talking about the wins we had. People knew how good the top teams were that year. The only game that I would say was a fluke that year was the Marshall win over Kansas State because K-state didn't have Ell Roberson. They were a completley different team with him just like we were with Omar. A couple of my neighbors arer NC State grads and they said that they wouldn't have wanted to play us. And this is the NC State team that had Rivers in his senior year that took OSU to triple over time i think.
Regarding our kicking...it will be interesting to see if Rojas is that much of a stud if Brandon will still make him do that ridiculous run to the side pooch kick.
Also, I look for CP to have a awesome year returning kicks...just ask his dad about his great game in High School. Spart43???

All I want for Christmas this year is for us to line up in a normal freakin' punt formation and kick it 45 yards every time like a big boy school.

Me too...the formation & sideways kick thing is ridiculous.
Say what you will about the "rugby" formation, but we finished 41st in the NCAA in net punting last year. That puts us on the low end of the upper 1/3 of Div 1A. I'll take a repeat of that this year....
We only had two blocked, so the effect was probably pretty neutral regardless of their inclusion...or irregardless if you want to tick off Grant. Personally, I could care less.

Having recruited the #1 punter in all the land, I would like to see us top 10 within a couple of years. My heart would be healthier if I never saw the wide splits punt formation ever again. The rugby thing didn't bother me nearly as much as that did. We may have only had 2 "blocked", but we had many more tipped and shanked due to incredible pressure on Fry through those splits.
