Barons forward Tomas Petruska selected for World Junior ...

Post by FalconBlue »

In 2005 Tomas Petruska played 35 games for Waterloo scoring 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points before being let go from Waterloo. Thomas ended up at Des Moines for the 2004/2005 season where he played 18 games with 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points. In the 2005/ 2006 season with the NAHL Cleveland Barons Thomas played 34 games with 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points (quite a difference). Thomas was ranked 46th in the NAHL in scoring. The article below provides further interesting trivia.

"Barons forward Tomas Petruska selected for Slovakian World Junior Hockey Championship team where he played in 6 games and had 4 assists. Slovakia ended the tournament ranked 8 out of 10 teams. Canada won the Gold, Russia the Silver medal and Finland the Bronze Medal. The USA were 4th.

12/03/05 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) Cleveland Barons
(Parma, OH)
The Cleveland Barons of the North American Hockey League is proud to announce that forward Tomas Petruska has been selected to participate in the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship in Vancouver, British Columbia from December 26th through January 5, 2006. Petruska will be representing Slovakia.

The Presov, Slovakia native, arrived to the Barons in late October from the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. In 10 games with the Barons, Petruska has 7 goals and 6 assists for 13 points.

Barons Head coach/ General Manager John Fritsche stated:" This is great honor for this young man to represent our organization and his country, we wish him all the best in Vancouver."

Petruska joins former Barons Dan Fritsche, Jim Slater, and Chris Bogas to play in this prestigious event. However Petruska is the first player that was selected while currently playing for the Barons."
If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back now and then to make sure it's still there.

According to today's email from Research on Ice, Petruska has committed to BG for this coming year. I think that may just about be the last one. Wow, are we going to have a big freshman class!!!

DROP THE PUCK!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
