"Turner is no stranger to success. In his junior year at Dayton Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School, Turner quarterbacked his team to a state title. In the championship game, Turner's team defeated Sagamore Hills, the team which BG running back Dan Macon played for.

Ummm....that would actually be "Nordonia", not Sagamore Hills. For the love of Doyt Perry, don't let Class of 61 see this error.

"I'm looking forward to the schedule for the challenge," Turner said. "A lot of people don't think we'll be good next year because we lost so many guys. Yes we're young, but we're talented".

Exactly...give it a little time and watch this team grow. We'll be in the hunt for the title. There will be growing pains.

GO FALCONS!!!! 68+ days to go.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I still say since hes to sit the first game, the coaches should focus on G. and just let AT back him up. We are far better off running a true Fresh at QB and developing him this year and runing the table over the three that follow.

Teams that start true freshman almost never succeed. Almost all high school players, especially QBs, need a little seasoning before they are legit D1 players. AT is our QB this year unless Barnes goes nuts against Wisky. Sheehan and Glaud will both probably be redshirted, and would only see the field if Barnes gets hurt during the first game, or AT and Barnes are both hurt or extremely ineffective later in the year.

Unless Glaud walks into camp and is completely lights out, head and shoulders above the crowd good, I can see no benefit to ditching Turner in his favor.

Turner has his weaknesses (making his reads and a decision a little more quickly ) but he's an extremely talented QB who's been in our system for going on three years. You don't throw that away on a whim.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Mike,
Good for YOU!! Joyce just changed jobs too...seems much more contented (or is it that married life agrees with her?) Anyway, it'll be a lot easier to get to T-Burg than the Independence job I would think. Taking Rt. 8 straight N instead of 77 was a lot faster for me from your place to Sag. Hills. Would think that it would be that way for you too. Good LUCK!!!

FF and Class of 61,

The interview went VERY well and I will be getting a start date some time this week. :-D My buddy Christian is one of the managers and he informally offered me the job today...he just needs to verify the hire date.
SWEET.

Rt 8 North to Highland Rd...a couple more turns and I'm there. I'll be driving 20 miles less PER day. That's what I'm talking about.

Nice article........

Just stay away from the stinkin' weed and you'll be fine AT. I don't see us redshirting both incoming freshman. I see us rs one of them and the other backing up AT after the opener. I do not see Barnes as a more than a 3rd backup or emergency qb. I will say it now I believe that both freshman qb's coming in this year are better qb's than Barnes period. Barnes will make a nice athlete ,WR or DB but not Qb. I think Pete Winovich might be better backup Qb than Barnes in my opinion.

Even if they are the backup QB, you still redshirt them. You only pull the redshirt off if they have to go in the game.

If Pete Winovich ever sees the field as a QB again I'll eat a bug. Meanwhile, Freddie Barnes is starting the season as our QB. I'd say he's probably a better QB for our system than Pete. I would like to see him at wideout after AT gets back in there though. We definitely have a need.

i wouldnt mind them moving van johnson back to qb for the game. He's just as good if not better athlete and has a better arm than Barnes.
