Q&A with Omar

Post by TG1996 »

Kinda "meh", and the color scheme is nauseating, but it *IS* Omar...

Interesting that so many people on Steeler boards and in this QA session, liken him to Kordell Stewart, seeing him as a wideout, etc. I read something the other day praising his scrambling ability. I gotta wonder if anybody has been paying attention. I'm thinking the Steelers are a pretty conservative bunch and would want him hitting high percentage passes and handing off for the most part.

Well, he's a black QB. That means he can run fast, right?

Omar is not a slash-like player. Just not going to happen. He's mobile in the pocket, and he could take off for a first down if it was open, but he wasn't a runner like Josh Harris was. I think they're trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

Why pick on Limbaugh?

I agree that most of those numbskulls probably think "black QB=great athlkete that can play WR", but I don' think I've ever heard Limbaugh make those kinds of comments?

You're right. Most Steeler fans that don't know anything about Omar are so used to Kordell Stewart, Randle-el, and Hines Ward as black QBs that can do other things, they don't understand when a big athletic black QB is primarily a passer. Unfortunate.

Wasn't it Limbaugh that got fired from ESPN for saying McNabb only gets credit for being a QB because he's black? It doesn't seem like a stretch for him to also go the extra mile. Maybe he's never been on record as saying it, but he does seem like the type.

I wouldn't baste Limbaugh, I would baste the schmuck who said that McNabb was trying to be too much like a white quarterback because he didn't run enough last year. That guy was a total moron.

No...Limbaugh said McNabb got more positive coverage than he deserved because the media wanted to see a black QB succeed.

That isn't really similar to what these Steeler fans seem to be saying

Well, Omar seems more mobile than Rush Limbaugh ( who would HAVE to be a running back, wouldn't he?) but less than pre-motorcycle Rothlesberger. I saw him more like Byron Leftwich: stays in the pocket, quick release, only runs if everything totally collapses. I would hope that P-bergers had moved beyond the black QB thing but maybe not. Its just odd that it's so pervasive...
