I was gonna use a gay joke too...not saying disco is gay, but it is really, really, really out of place at football games...

If you want to go the gay route, how about anything by Wham!, Lola by the Kinks or I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred. Or just use the entire Culture Club catalog....

Announcer: "Touchdown Falcons!"

PA: "Karma Karma Karma Chameleon, you come and go, you come and gooooooo."

Nah...."I'll tumble for ya, I'll tumble for ya..." When someone gets injured they could play "Do you really want to hurt me"

I think that this is a moot point. We have a marching band, and a pretty good one at that. There's no need for canned music.

Sounds like MACMAN is stuck in the 70's. Good idea though. The music definitely enhances the experience. The Dallas Stars have done a good job of hiring someone to update the music. But they are playing stuff like the Killers, instead of MACMAN's disco fever tunes. Go figure!

Well its all good i guess, cause "thats way uh uh I like it..."

boy george now that would be interesting..could toss in Duran Duran and finishit off with Sir elton on top. the half time show could rival the superbowls gertol performance with Rod Stewart...or Bread...naw that might make AT smoke some more

I've said this before, but I think it would be difficult to top "The March of the Stormtroopers of Death" for when the team hits the field.

I also persist in this (perhaps naive) belief the marching band could actually pull off "The March of the Stormtroopers of Death" without benefit of a sound system. I'm no band guy, but it seems to be that an arrangement is there, waiting to be written.

Another entrance that would be dramatic is "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica.

I'm not a huge metal head. I like all kinds of stuff -- bluegrass, electronica, world music, hip hop. I'm pretty open-minded.

But I do think it would be cool if the stuff they played on the PA reflected a sense of place.

So what fits Bowling Green?

There is a part of me that wants to sneer when they play AC/DC's Thunderstruck at Marshall games. It's not a very good song. But I also recognize that it fits that community.

And, demographically, I don't think the cornfields around Bowling Green are that different from the hollers around Huntington, W.Va.

Another fun direction would be to invoke some tradition and play off the old school feel of Bowling Green as a community.

In other words, maybe some killer mid-60s frat rock (the The Sonics, for example) would bring generations of fans together. (To appreciate The Sonics, try to imagine a punked out version of Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels).

Long story short: I dig hip hop as much as the next guy, but it doesn't feel right to me in Perry Stadium.

Sound samples below:

Metallica (third track):

The Sonics (try "The Witch," "Have Love, Will Travel," "Psycho," "Money," or -- and the clip doesn't do justice to the angst, surliness and genius of the lyrics -- "Strychnine." Actually, there is no way they could play "Strychnine." It's a 40 year old song, but it's still too racy. There would be howls of protest.)
