There's a story on the Browns' website this morning about the game.

i guess there was a little thing on Channel 8 in cleveland last nite (monday) 10 pm news. I didnt see it but my mom said it said the quarterback has sold 700 tickets so far, and that he is excited because it is his first start. She said she couldnt remember who it was though. I wish i would of seen it.

I have said that the AD and the Browns are doing a great job of promoting, and they are. However, driving through Berea and seeing the banners for the Browns' 60th anniversary near their training facility the other day it dawned on me that both parties might really be missing the boat on a potentially lucrative marketing angle.

I really think that it would behoove both the Browns and BG to push the link between the Browns and the University. Acknowledging the University as the site of the Browns' first training camps and the legacy of the team's colors, I think, could really generate some interest in this game amongst Browns fans who are not necessarily associated with the University in any way. The fact that this game is taking place during the Browns' 60th only makes this angle easier to sell in my mind.

I'm just curious to see what some of you think. Perhaps we should start a letter-writing campaign or something. Personally, I would love to see this happen.

Glad to see a decent amount of advertising and exposure coming out for this game. I think more people would be interested in going if they actually knew it was happening!!! But in the meantime I'll try to keep spreading the word here in Indiana! :)
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

I agree your thoughts on this.

As a BG fan and a Browns fan, I find it to be a great piece of trivia. As a marketing message, it falls flat. I just don't think it would move people to attend the game, which should be the goal of any marketing effort.

I understand what you are saying to a point, but you have to realize that this is more than just a "piece of trivia," it is one of the foundational elements of Browns history. During any anniversary season for any franchise in any sport, it is always important to highlight organizational history (look at all the hoopla the Indians had in 2001). The fact that Bowling Green is playing the first ever DI game in CBS during the 60th anniversary, I think, is more than enough reason to make a point of highlighting the tradiontal link between BGSU and the Browns.

And who knows - maybe some Buckeye-loving Browns fans (and there are many) might read about this and say something to the effect of "huh, maybe I should check out this team." Hell, we might even gain a handful of fans in the long-run, and there isn't a thing wrong with that.

I agree it would not sell more Browns tickets. It may. however, give BG a greater amount of exposure. For BG it would be a positive. For the Browns I am not so sure.

I think that may have been Dan Macon cuz I saw a quick blurb on Channel 3 and they were interviewing Macon for a few seconds. There wasn't nearly as much as I thought there would be.

Mike,

Indeed it was Dan Macon who sold the 700 tickets...a guy who does cardiac rehab with me goes to his dad's church (dad is the pastor)...and he mentioned that Dan had sold the 700 tix to the congregation! :)
