Anything that raises our attendance is worth it, no matter how crude!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

That's what immediately came to mind when I saw the time change. But, in the imperfect world of Falcon football fandom, it is a smart move.Warthog wrote:Let's cut the bullshit too. Everyone knows that time was changed because a certain school in Columbus is playing at Texas at 8:00 this very same day. Here we go bowing to the pressure of making sure our fans can get home in time to catch every second of the Buckeye's game.

Ok not seriously anything, but a few time changes here and there wouldnt hurt! Purdue does it all the time and they're on TV almost every game, but still struggle with attendance. Avoiding the OSU-Texas re-match wasnt a bad idea, because I have noticed many casual BG fans are OSU fans as well!

yes and no. first fix is abolishing the BCS ( not holding my breath) and having all D1 play D! via random drawing for OCC.Bleeding Orange wrote:This is rediculous. I am so tired of Black Swamp Festival dictating when we play football games. I mean, first of all it is allowing corporations like Black Swamp Festival to push us around that keeps us in the small time! I'm sick of Black Swamp Festival pushing us around thinking that they can do whatever they want. Second, people have already made plans, and this time change is going to throw all of that off. But, do you think Black Swamp Festival cares? No. Black Swamp Festival is only worried about their bottom line, and apparently our AD is worried about Black Swamp Festival's bottom line, too.
Irregardless, I'm getting really sick and tired of bending at every whim of Black Swamp Festival.

Secong the UNIv would be smart to invit the city to move the fesival to the field area between the ice house and the Doyt. this way all that entertainment, people and art would be conviently located near the game. Yea parking would go to hell in a handbasket but who cares, trafic in town would improve greatly.
third I have to wonder if maybe the Univ is not concerned with the construction site dangers.

Well normally I'd be pissed about taking away a night game, but I think, in this case, I'm pleased. I have tickets to the Browns game Sunday, and I wasn't sure whether I'd be able to make the Falcons game or not. Usually we head to Cleveland on Saturdays and stay there to get an early start on tailgating. We would likely not have changed those usual plans for a game against Buffalo, but with it being early we may be able to hit the game first

And give them credit for blaming the Black Swamp Festival rather than the scarlet elephant in the room.BGSUfalcons wrote:That's what immediately came to mind when I saw the time change. Incidentally, it seems to me Black Swamp Festival is always a home game weekend (although maybe I'm imagining that).
Do people here think Black Swamp helps or hurts attendance? I lean toward the latter, myself...
I was wondering the same thing myself, and really going back and forth on it. I've never been to the Black Swamp Festival (and for some reason am kind of curious to make it to one), but I can't imagine it being downtown and the stadium being where the stadium is makes it all that conducive to having people do both in the day, regardless of the timing, or that the crowds that attend both would necessarily be the same type of folks.Schadenfreude wrote:Do people here think Black Swamp helps or hurts attendance? I don't remember if it was in a post or a column I wrote here awhile back in "wild brainstorm mode", but I wonder if there's any way they could incorporate some of the Black Swamp stuff into the football gameday atmosphere. Or even use it as a way to get some more money in and attendance figures up? Maybe find a good headliner-type act or two and have a post-game concert somehow.

This all strictly my opinion, but I think your two target audiences are mutually exclusive. The arts fest draws your snobby, wine drinking intellectuals while a football game attracts the home-brew making, drink from the bottle, eat with your hands type of crowd. Maybe an arts fest-football game combo would work at a place like Miami, but not here so much, I think.TG1996 wrote:Schadenfreude wrote:or that the crowds that attend both would necessarily be the same type of folks.

No, it's not. The Arts Festival is always the same Saturday in the month. The year we played at Purdue it was Arts Fair Weekend.Schadenfreude wrote:And give them credit for blaming the Black Swamp Festival rather than the scarlet elephant in the room.BGSUfalcons wrote:That's what immediately came to mind when I saw the time change. Contrary to the characterizations in another post of the crowd at the Black Swamp, there is definitely some overlap. I don't think they even sell wine at the Arts Fair, and there are tons of people who come down for the music during the night who are beer drinkers and who aren't interested in the art. This group does go to football games. I can think of lots of regulars of both.
The Black Swamp is a pretty big deal. It draws 60,000 people in one weekend, candidly comparable to 3 or even 4 BG football games. I think making it so the events don't conflict makes sense for everyone.
Guess I should have added the <sarcasm> thing to my post.orangeandbrown wrote:Contrary to the characterizations in another post of the crowd at the Black Swamp, there is definitely some overlap.
Guess this is another weekend then that we need to coordinate our scheduling with the MAC office. Along with Fall Break and every Ohio State football game.orangeandbrown wrote: I think making it so the events don't conflict makes sense for everyone.
Quite honestly, I am getting fed up with the scheduling of the football games taking second fiddle to every other event that might be going on. Going to a BG football game should be the event that draws people into town. And then folks can partake of whatever else that may be going on. Instead, it seems that things work the other way around. We try to schedule our football games in hopes that we might get another 100-200 people at the game because they happened to be in the area for some other event.

Doesnt matter what makes sense when you are selfish like me and want a full day o' tailgating fun.
You can count on the Freaks hanging for at least a couple hours after the game. That's one good thing about the 3pm kickoff...game should be over around 6 and we have a 2 1/2 hour drive home. We'll stay until at least 8.
GO FALCONS!!! 38 days....

Sorry for missing the sarcasm. I think the game and the festival can be the same day, but its better to let the game not conflict with the festival's highest attendance time, which is Saturday night. Just my opinion.Warthog wrote:Guess I should have added the <sarcasm> thing to my post.orangeandbrown wrote:Contrary to the characterizations in another post of the crowd at the Black Swamp, there is definitely some overlap.![]()

People will schedule around the football games when the fan support reaches the point that its dumb to try to schedule something against the football game. As long as you draw like you did for Akron and WMU, you're not a real factor.
