We can only hope that this discussion might have a positive impact. I found it interesting to see this in a recent issue of the BG News. Perhaps we should also require this of our coaches.
"I think it'll take intensive orientation with a lot of talking and listening on their [new athletic director] part," Whipple said. "But most importantly, it'll be developing relationships with people. Developing relationships with coaches, players, the key constituents who support the program, The BG News - those kinds of things are real important if an athletic director is going to be successful."
Fundraising was also listed as a priority. As far as baseball, it appears as though the players & families have been alienated by this coach, therefore thwarting any fundraising efforts for the much needed improvements to the baseball complex.

After reading all of this, I'm wondering if the baseball team isn't suffering from a severe case of "helicopter parents."
Now that would add an interesting wrinkle to the discussion, no?

They are those parents that always "hover" around the student, never letting them do something by themselves.
Sometimes it's because the parent knows the student will not follow through or do something so they're right their to make sure the student does it.
Many times it's meant in a non-endearing way if the parent does not allow a student to take some initiative and/or does everything for the student. I remember a young lady that was 28 years old and married, her mother called my office (when I was the registrar at a small private college in NC) and told me that her daughter needed academic advising and I needed to make an appointment to see her (never mind that she had an academic adviser who was responsible for doing this). The husband was really upset when I pulled out my academic catalogue and proceeded to review her transcripts (like they think we can remember all of the majors we offer?).

Helicopter parents are also known to fight battles on behalf of their kids in order to have the kids succeed.
Ivy League schools experience this quite a bit.
I'm not saying this IS the case, but some of the posts lean that direction to me.

good one...
I'm not sure at what parents the "helicopter parents" message was directed, but if it was directed at our family, you sure don't know us. It was good for a chuckle though.

The best to all!
The sad situation, for me, is I may never know if this has done any good. I certainly hope it has. I will be following Dash. I wish the best for the BGSU Falcons Baseball team, their parents, and their coaches. I thank you for you're personal letters.
On the bright side... The Kids are alright!

IT'S GREAT!
It's Great seeing the team doing so well. I'm very happy and pleased to see them tied for top spot... Perhaps a change has occured? I always have wished the best for the team, and follow them closely.
Perhaps, with their talents, they will reach the top in the MAC!!!!

Damn. That would be a shame if Stewart wasn't back with the team in 2007. He's a pretty damn good player and could really help us out next season. If this is true, I hate seeing this kind of thing happen so late in ones career.factman wrote:He has not graduated yet, and is not taking summer classes, so he would not be elgible this fall anyway. It is my opinion, that it is probably best for Josh and the baseball program that he not return for his fifth year, but he certainly needs to at least get his degree.
GO BG!!!
