Media Day Blackout

Post by JoeFalcon »

Does anyone else find it strange that there's been virtually no coverage of anything Gregg Brandon, Devon Parks or Kory Lichtensteiger had to say during MAC Media Day? Google results turn up almost nothing in terms of articles or features.

The day after MAC Media Day, The Blade did a story on the UT running back situation and a general MAC article with a couple comments from Brandon. This week alone, there was another article on UT plus a photo feature titled "ROCKETS READY FOR TAKEOFF," surely a headline only a BG-biased paper (cough, cough) would have.

Maybe the local TV stations had more coverage not seen by us outside Northwest Ohio and perhaps the Blade (and the BG News for that matter) is saving a bunch of BG stuff for later, but it does seem rather odd.

Maybe you should check this site once in a while see if they have anything. http://bgsufalcons.cstv.com/sports/m-fo ... 06aaa.html

And the Sent Trib had a story on Tuesday. That's where I got the info that I posted here: http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/phpBB2/v ... hp?t=12026

I'm having trouble finding stuff as well. Why dont they just put in on the U? Every other conference has been on there including the Mtn West!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

Wow...not even a cutesy emoticon to mollify that biting sarcasm. Uh, yeah, I check the school website. I wasn't referring to the school website, I was referring to the MEDIA REPORTING on the event from MEDIA DAY. Here's where I'd make a crack about taking a reading comprehension course if I wanted to follow your lead and make a imbecilic attempt at an insult.

The Sentinel also doesn't have a website with story contents and thus isn't seen by those of us outside Wood County. Posting info gleaned from it is indeed appreciated as they do a great job of going beyond the obvious and providing some insight.

That would be a good idea. The conference website does have archives of short interviews they did themselves with the players and coaches:

On bgsufalcons.com there is a photo gallery of media day:

And that is Maureen Fulton conducting the interview so I would say watch for something in the Bland.

Your welcome.

Don't know where you are located Joe, so I am wondering what kind of coverage you would expect to see from the MAC media day. BGSUFalcons.com had a story. The Sent had a story. The Toledo TV stations did stories on Monday. 1470 the Ticket had an interview with Brandon that they played on Tuedsay. Outside of this market area, I wouldn't expect BG to get much coverage due to the low expectations for this season.

I suppose I'm just looking for any coverage at all. The two largest search engines in the world yieled nothing from external print or archived electronic media sources except a snippet from a Michigan newspaper on area BG player Cody Basler. I can't tell you exactly what I expected, but it was a bit more than that.

The sources you cited are terrific but completely inaccesible to those outside the area (except when you or orangeandbrown are generous enough to share Sentinel info), so people like us have to rely on the other stuff. This is particularly disconcerting given the coverage UT got from the Blade, future stories notwithstanding.

Expectations and proportionality may be legitimate issues, especially this year, but I'm not ready to lower them to a point where 8 sentences in a Michigan newspaper is all the winningest MAC program since 2001 is allotted in the MAC media landscape.

That isn't a laser pointer. It's a truth-getting device.

Nice try, BO, but we all know journalists don't care about the truth! ;-)

The Columbus Dispatch even had something about MAC media day. The first few paragraphs were dedicated to coach Brandon's suit.
