Ya know, every once and a while I think it is acceptable to put on the "orange-goggles".

Omar earned himself a nickname quite a while back....what was it?....oh yeah, now I remember....."Cruise-Control"

We all remember a QB who threw zero interceptions against Oklahoma's defense (arguably containing the best defensive end tandem in college football at the time).

Omar may have his lessons to learn, but I would take any review accusing him of "panicking" and throw it straight in the trash.

Omar Jacobs is one of the most even-tempered players I've seen. Maybe that's a bad thing, because he doesn't seem to ever get worked up and emotional when he plays. However, the notion that he is "panicking" is absurd.

The thing that is rough about this part of the season is that there are a million subjective opinions, and very little concrete statistics. We just need to be patient. Pre-season started last Sunday, which means we'll be getting answers soon.

I agree with most of your post. I'd be shocked if Omar were panicking, that is certainly not his nature. Of course, I haven't been watching him practice, so who am I to say.

Preseason is coming up and we'll know very quickly where Omar stands. Generally preseason is the time for you to get some work for the guys on the bottom of your depth chart. Once the season begins your #3 QB will get almost no reps in practice, and is only available in games for emergencies. So usually they get a bulk of the playing time during preseason games, since it will be their only real action until an emergency situation arises.

If Omar is on the sidelines while these other guys are taking all the snaps during the preseason games that's bad news. Even if he does get cut there is little doubt that he'll be on somebody's practice squad this year. Still, that would be an indication that Pittsburgh believes he's even more of a project than we may have thought initially.

The rumor about getting cut came from the same site that previosely insinuated Omar was dumb and made the professional, entirely provable remark that he "really has no idea what he’s doing once he does get the snap." Is that reporting or comments made to a buddy on a barstool after chugging a couple longnecks?

My guess is Omar blew one of their reporters off for an interview or something. They seem to dislike him like that masseuse who dated Jerry disliked George Costanza.

This is the part that concerns me. This isn't a reporter talking...it's Omar. He certainly isn't the first rookie QB to have trouble grasping an NFL offense. He has the luxury of being the #3 QB, which means he can spend the season getting acclimated to the offense and it's terminology before he sees any significant time on the field. Preseason games are great learning experiences for rookie QBs. Omar just needs to show enough potential to the Steelers coaching staff to warrant them keeping him on the roster this year. He may have shown enough already in practice. If he shows some promise in preseason, there is no way the Steelers will risk losing him to another team by trying to hide him on the practice squad.

Oh please......This is Omar Jacobs, not Dr. Phil. He has never been self-promoting. He's always been a tough critic of himself. Because he says he's struggling with something, doesn't necessarily mean he's struggling more than anybody else is.

There have been reports out of Tennessee that Vince Young is struggling mightily learning the plays as well. Leinart hasn't even signed a contract yet. This is something that all rookie QBs go through, but Omar will just have to show he can get through it by performing on and off the field. I'm pretty confident that the Steelers will put Boyd rather than Omar on the PS, because there's an infinitely higher chance Omar would get scooped up as opposed to Boyd.

It was reported on the Steelers board that Omar scored a 38 on the Wonderlic?!? Does anybody have any idea if that's anywhere near the truth?

Omars fine in Pit. My bet will be he will end up on the practice squad for most of the reg season, pending Bens and Batches health where by he would brought up. Pits happy with him, fans have liked what they have seen in him and he is a developing QB.

I don't think they'll expose him to the "practice squad." That means any other team could sign him provided they keep him on their official 52 man roster.

I think he'll make the Steelers roster, but won't be activated for games. I think the NFL has a rule that the third string QBs can play in an emergency situation even if they are listed as inactive for the game.

I agree Rollo83 and J4H. The steelers would be stupid to put him on their practice squad. After the spring play he has had, he wouldn't last long before another team grabbed him up.

It wouldn't be the first stupid move the steelers have made this year, but it might be the worst.

I sure hope that this isn't as true as it seems. Omar needs to keep working hard at whatever he's doing. Learning an entire NFL offensive playbook is going to take some time anyway. I'm sure other qb's have had the same problems too. But I too would say that we dont' develop great NFL ready qb's here at BG as far as offensive managment goes. Omar never did learn how to call his own audibles but they were given to him from the sidelines. That always did rub me the wrong way. It seems of all the other Mac schools that have qb's in the NFL, Miami (OH) Marshall, they seem to run a more NFL style offense and not the total spread like we do.

I'm starting to think more and more that if Omar makes the #3 qb spot for the Steelers, and learns the playbook and how to run a NFL offense for a year , I'll be happy. As most of you I'd like to see our Falcons on the NFL field as soon as possible but in this case it just won't happen.
