BG to get letter from NCAA

Eastern Michigan drew the fewest fans, averaging 5,219 per game. It was behind Kent State (6,658); Buffalo (8,914); Rice (10,072); Akron (10,893) and Utah State (10,896).
San Jose State averaged 12,506 and New Mexico State 12,557. Others receiving letters were Temple (12,735), Ball State (12,953), Tulane (14,242), Louisiana Monroe (14,617) and Bowling Green (14,929).
Hard to justify that we are indeed "building a program" being lumped in with that motley crew.

I know, I know. . . .

Any idea what the attendance will be at Cleveland? Will this count as our home attendance? If so this may carry us through the year and we could be fine. Without Omar attendance may be down. We go to Toledo too so thats not good.

Yes, it's a home game. Nonetheless, this is not shaping up to be a good year for attendance.

I know it will be a home game, but i wonder if because it will not be in BG stadium if the NCAA will count it. If they are trying to get rid of teams, they may not.

They'll count it.

Well, we only have 5 "home" games this year. One is in Cleveland that will probably have better attendance than a sellout at the Doyt. Add in a game against Miami and I don't see how the average could be any lower than last year's average. Still not good, but we should at least be able to break 15 thou.

What he said. Looking at it from a strict "get the average up and not get another NCAA letter" perspective, a big game at Cleveland and only four home games makes reaching 15,000 a near certainty. I'd imagine the Miami(OH) game will bring in a decent number of folks, especially if there's a title on the line. If there's 30,000 at Cleveland, we need to only average ~11,000 in four games at home. If Miami(OH) hits 20K, we need only get 8K for the other three, one of which is Homecoming.

Granted, that's talking the minimum to get by the NCAA (which as I type, the thought of sickens me, but regardless...), but I still don't think attendance (including Cleveland) will leave us any worse off than years past. 30K for Cleveland (and some estimates are talking 40K?), 20 each for Miami(OH) and HC, and even if we only get 10 for UB (REAL home opener, I'd expect more like 15K there) and the other home game, we're still better off than last year.

I'm rambling. Need more beer.

I don't think its us that we need to be worried about. It's all those other teams in the MAC that we dont want to lose!
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

Even without including the attendance in Cleveland, I think that home attendance will be over 15,000/game this year. Over the past few years, the home (Doyt) opener has drawn well over 15,000 regardless of the opponent. Miami should draw over 15,000. As have been mentioned, one of the two other homes games is homecoming. My guess is that, even if the team is mediocre, home (Doyt) attendance will be no lower than 15,750 - 16,000/game.

I'd send those sanctimonious bureaucrats a letter right back telling them to shove it.

We're talking about 71 people, people.

Akron (2005 MAC Champs) and Kent are thousands below the limit. Kent's AD, Laing Kennedy, raised holy heck with the NCAA recently over this and they backed off to the point where the ominoius "sanctions" impending offenders might incur would be subject to protracted legal battles and challenges that render them virtually toothless.

This will do little more than uselessly stoke the fire of the Debbie Downer-wing of the fan base and divert attention from the tangible achievements of this program listed on the front cover of the 2006 Media Guide in case anyone forgot.

The only person I can make sure is in a seat is me.

Not to mention it seemed like there were more people in the stands than the University reported last year...at least to me.

I say tell 'em to go screw themselves. They do nothing visible whatsoever to help the smaller programs of D1.

And yes, the Cleveland game will count in our home attendance average. This was covered in the articles about the Toledo-OSU game coming up in Cleveland.
