BGSU / MAC Football Attendance Problems
BGSU / MAC Football Attendance Problems
BG is mentioned in this article as one of the schools getting a warning letter from the NCAA about football attendance. Too many MAC schools are mentioned......

Isn't this an easy problem for the AD to fix? No one ever knows how they come up with the attendance #s...They are always inflated...VT announces 65,115 every single game...sometimes like Miami last year they probably jammed a few more in...but other times against Duke por someone there will be huge empty sections...UVA's had attendance over 64K in their stadium that seats 61,500...I'm sure we've had over 62 or even 62 K, but they just let the students in like BG does and then guess the attendance.

Nudity + midgets = money.
IIRC, the average attendance for the life of the Doyt is right around 15,000.
Since I doubt the previous AD's were trying to drive people away, I have to assume that the issue of attendance has been looked at by many people with fancy degrees and titles. Some of them probably wore suits....with ties that matched. They didn't fix it and I doubt I can either.
Am I suggesting that we should just accept 15k and be done with it? No, I'm simply pointing out that the issue of attendance has been a long term problem.
That's not a very useful thing to do and I suppose it doesn't add much to the conversation, but it's all I've got right now so sue me....

A friend of mine (A fellow Miami Grad and former football player) and I had an interesting discussion with someone in the know at Miami a few weeks ago. This person alluded to some conference changes (and I am not talking about Temple). But my friend and I were of the opinion that the guarded comments from this Miami official seemed to indicate that several strong MAC teams could be gone in the not so distant future.
That conversation also centered around scheduling and attendance. We possed this question - Does it hurt to scedule weaker conference teams late in the season when weather might keep people from coming to the game. Or more plainly put - if it is cold, windy, and raining, are you really likely to come watch BG put a hurting and run up the score on a team like Eastern Michigan. That is when this particular official started his "dance"....... Very Interesting. We immediately began to guess BG, Miami, Toledo, and Ohio. The stronger programs and their long standing rivals

Yep. I've had similar discussions. The next few years will likely see the MAC re-shaped.Tech83 wrote:A friend of mine (A fellow Miami Grad and former football player) and I had an interesting discussion with someone in the know at Miami a few weeks ago. Re-Alignment Scenario
Toledo, Miami and N. Illinois all go to the Big East or Con USA.
We are left out.
Would it make more sense for us to be in this new dilluted league without any of our real rivals or would we be better off going independent and being able to schedule whomever whenever?

Good point 1987, and even ND has lots of garunteed games with the Big 10 and Big East to fill the schedule every year. Although I suppose if those teams ever left there would be a line forming to fill those spots, but thats Notre Dame. Which I do believe is an antonym for Bowling Green.
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
