In the Columbus area, the Browns game will be on CBS. If you have Time Warner, the Bears game will be on Channel 2 (I don't know about the other companies).Warthog wrote:Picture-in-picture!hammb wrote:Good Luck PJ, but the Browns-Lions game is tonight as well.Warthog wrote:Chargers at Bears is on CBS tonight. Interestingly enough, our good friend Roger Brown of the Plain Dealer made some critical comments in today's PD regarding the Brown's front office and the center position.Bleeding Orange wrote:This is true, but for someone (like me) who doesn't pay attention to every little move that the organization makes, it really doesn't seem like much has changed. "Some suggest we're too hard, at times, on Browns General Manager Phil Savage. But what would the reaction be if this happened under Butch Davis (whom Savage replaced as the Browns' personnel man):A starting center (Bob Hallen) abruptly quits - claiming an injury that the GM says he knew absolutely nothing about. A traded running back (Lee Suggs) is abruptly thrown back at the Browns because the other team - which badly needs runners - found him unfit to pass their physical. Another center (Alonzo Ephraim) is suspended by the NFL until October for a substance-abuse violation --and the team apparently had no clue that would happen when it acquired him.If the unpopular Davis had done the above - rather than the much-liked Savage - would he be getting the relative free pass from criticism that Savage has so far? Roger Brown is an F***ing idiot. The Starting Center was Bentley, who was not damaged goods when he signed, a fluke injury. Savage has said that the injury to Hallen occurred when the weight of the Browns fans fell on his shoulders...in other words, he freaked when he found out he'd have to start, and bolted...the team still doesn't believe he was actually hurt. When the other two crapped out they ran out and signed Ephraim, because they needed a body in camp, they didn't have time to do any homework on him.Warthog wrote:Interestingly enough, our good friend Roger Brown of the Plain Dealer made some critical comments in today's PD regarding the Brown's front office and the center position.Bleeding Orange wrote:This is true, but for someone (like me) who doesn't pay attention to every little move that the organization makes, it really doesn't seem like much has changed. As for Suggs, he's gonna get cut anyways, may as well try to pass him off to another team and get something in return.
I don't see Brown's point. Yeah, our starting, stud, center got hurt. I guess they could've done more h/w on Hallen to see if he could handle actually having to start, but other than that I don't see where you can fault Savage for Ephraim or Suggs. It's quite possible neither guy will be on the roster in a month anyways. More of Brown just trying to stir up the pot.

Just for the record, I was not necessarily agreeing with Brown's comments. Just thought they were releveant to this topic so I threw them out there.
I have no idea what happened with Hallen. Just seems like a strange situation, but I can't blame Savage for that. Suggs has always been hurt, so it isn't really a surprise that he failed the Jets physical. Again, Savage's fault. Ephraim is the only one you could fault Savage on. It seems like the NFL should provide all teams with a list of players that have pending drug suspensions if they sign. It shouldn't have to be the other way around. But since it is, they should have at least checked before signing the guy. It doesn't take that long to make a phone call.

I'm not one to bitch about the local paper on the whole, but I'm starting to see what folks mean when they say that all the PD goes out of its way to report doom and gloom, and to make its readers that the entire greater Cleveland region should just throw in the towel. Roger Brown is no exception. The paper perpetuates many Cleveland residents' poor self image of our hometown.hammb wrote:More of Brown just trying to stir up the pot.

So the Bears game won't be on in ch.11 here in NW Ohio? What about ESPN or NFL Network?BGSUfalcons wrote:In the Columbus area, the Browns game will be on CBS. The Bears game is on Ch. 11. The Lions-Browns game is on the Detroit affiliates from TW Cable.falconboy wrote:So the Bears game won't be on in ch.11 here in NW Ohio?
