Different year, same story

Post by Myles »

I'm glad to see Jacobs4Heisman is still the optimist.

Stocco's status will make little difference in this game. The Badgers will still mix up the run and the pass. You will see formations you and your D haven't yet seen and and an offense designed around whom ever is QBing. You are correct that Donovan is not nearly as good of a passer as the other QBs. Assuming Stocco doesn't play, what makes you think that Donovan will be the only QB to take snaps for the Badgers? He and Sherer will most likely both see action whether Stocco plays or not.

Stocco will be close to ready by the Cleveland game. Bielema closed practices starting this week. There are many reasons for this, and you can be sure that one of them is a variety of offensive sets being put in. How deep will they go into these new looks for the first game is up in the air.

The bottom line anyway will be the Badgers ability to run, and the Falcons ability to stop it. All-American left tackle Joe Thomas is not yet 100 % from his ACL surgury last January. How much he plays and how well will be much more important to the bottom line than who is taking snaps at QB

The Badgers D is scary good this year. I wouldn't expect MAC fans to know this yet, as most of the Big Ten has no idea yet either. Your offensive coordinator knows deep down that your guys will most likely not be able to consistently run against the Badgers. Football coaches are very much creatures of habit. Especially for the first game, the Falcons will try to run. I don't see it happening and you guys will have to go up top to have a chance.

It hasn't started yet in full force, but it's getting harder and harder to focus on work today. Next week at this time, my income earning potential will decay significantly.

TG,

I'm pretty sure once you play a down, the RS option is gone. Unless a player gets hurt and petitions the NCAA for a medical hardship RS.
Anyone know for certain if a player plays one down, the RS is gone? I'm 90% sure about it.

Now that I've thought about it, I'm not so sure anymore. Macon did play his FR and SO years so... :?

12 days. BEAT WISKY!!
I was under the impression sure you can redshirt any year. The rule is 5yrs to play 4. for example: the team could redshirt glaud this year and use Shehan, then next year use glaud and redshirt shehan. The little bit of searching I have done does not indicate that only freshman can redshirt.

And I'm glad to see Wisky fans are still arrogant :)

I would say I'm optimistic about this season, but not about game #1. I don't really think that saying we have a 20% chance to win if we can overcome a huge obstacle and stop the run is very optimistic. To each his own I guess.

Check out the bio of our starting HB to answer this question....

Exactly, which is why it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we end up using one of the freshman QB's in a couple of games. Freak is right, if you play one down the redshirt is gone for that year.

Five years to play four and it is not unheard of (not very common) for a player to redshirt SO, JR, or SR year

I dont think Stoccos can be ready for this game if he as the media reported just had knee surgery.

Sure he can be. It was minor arthroscopic surgery. Athletes have come back in 3 weeks from this type of thing many times before.

If he does play, it will still hurt having missed all this practice time with the new receiving core.

Is it "core", or "corps"??

I always thought the latter.

You are correct sir. Of course, I could claim that I meant "core" as in the core of the team.

But I really meant corps

BGFootball wrote:I agree with most everything MACMAN said except for wanting to start a true freshman. From what I have heard and witnessed, neither Glaud or Sheehan are prepared enough to start against Wisconsin. Freddie has shown that he is ready to take on the roll as a starter. Also, If I had to put the ball in one of the freshmans hand this year it would be Sheehan. He has one hell of an arm and has shown more poise then Glaud.
Not that I condone it, but could it be possible to run Glaud or Sheehan out there and use Barnes at WR, if Partridge is a no-go? Even if it's just an emergency use, and they don't see the field again this year, they can always redshirt next year, a la Dan Macon, right? Granted, that takes the thought of a true freshman playing against a Big Ten defense and tosses it out the window, but could be an option to get another burner at WR on the field...

Yes of course its possible, but I wouldnt recommend it. Freddie is our best bet at quarterback the first game. Depending on how he does AT will take over from there. I do not feel Glaud or Sheehan our prepared to start yet, let alone against a team like wisconsin.

I would say starting Freddie and giving some of the freshmen receivers, like Zach Charles and Pronty, some playing time is our best bet. It will let us see what they can do because we need someone to step up since CP is out. Zach Charles is one hell of an athlete. Also, dont forget about Pete, hes one big back, but he also has very good hands. Look for him to make plenty of catches. ;)
