I'm Delaine Sergent Landry. Born and raised in Bowling Green, so that explains a lot! I used to raise sheep on our farm just outside of BG, and the guys from KKY loved me for it!
I was a trumpet my frosh year at BGSU and then a drum major for 4 years with my best pal, RUIT (1988 - 1992). I think we called ourselves Associate Drum Majors. Cheers to the band geeks!
After college I was a bartender at numerous places in BG, a substitute teacher for two years, and a technical writer/receptionist for BOC gases. I got my Masters in Reading in 1998 and moved to Louisiana. I taught at three different schools for three and a half years and took two years off to be a technical writer for Oceaneering. I met my husband there and we married in BG in 2000. We moved up here, with our daughter, Gwen (5), in 2003. I have a 15 year old step-daughter that still lives in Louisiana and we only get to see her about twice a year
I worked at an inner-city charter school in Toledo for two LONG years before landing a wonderful job at the Wood County Educational Service Center as a Youth Employment Specialist. I work with at-risk kids, 14-21, from Wood County. I mainly work in the following schools: Northwood, Elmwood, Lake, North Baltimore, Fostoria. Love the job!
In October of 2005 we lost our house and my three cats to a fire. Luckily, my husband, who was home at the time, escaped without injury. Because of this site I found out about true comaraderie: 20 BGSU Band students came to my house and helped us clean out almost all of our smoke and fire damaged belongings. They also gave my daughter a teddy bear and us a gift card for necessities. It was so heart-warming. It was a definite bright spot in an otherwise terrible time.
We lived with my parents for 9 months. During that time, other than trying to not go crazy, my husband (38) had a heart attack (just another reason to hate April 15). He had 99% blockage. The Wood Co. Hospital saved his life. They were amazing.
I'm thankful we were living at my parents as my dad noticed the signs of the attack and had me call 911. If we had been at our own home, or home alone, I would have driven him to the hospital and he would have died. I think all things happen due to a reason...
On our 6th anniversary, we moved back into our house. We got running water the next week! Our house is ALMOST done!!! We had to fire one contractor for embezlement (it hasn't been a great year) and this next one isn't getting high marks, either, but, again, it's almost done and we're in the home stretch!
We got another cat (Care Bear); one that Gwen tamed while living at my parent's farm.
That's me, Ohiogal that had trouble spelling Falcons at one time!
