I'll give you that one. At the very least that has been the trend in recent history (last 10-15ish years). That's not to say that good drum majors can't come from other sections, it's just that they seem to turn them out.

That being said, I still have to aggree with Niz. It doesn't take much to distract/confuse/disorient/screw up Mellos.

In re-reading the previous post, I just really caught that. Not going to touch that with a ten foot pole.

As strange as this sounds, I've been told that before.

How was Ryan Nowlin as a drum Major? No one ever really has anything to say about it. With how brilliant he is at everything else it would seem as though he would be pretty good at that too...

Along these lines, we also had a trio of Mello DM's in '01 in Dave, Eddie, and Tom. Last year there was Brian. Are there any others in recent memory that I'm missing?

From what I've heard Ryan was a fantastic drum major. It's my understanding that he set the precedent for drum majors being as good as they were up until just recently (it's my opinon that they've been slipping just a tad as of late. The drum majors are still good, I just think they could be better.)

And to answer Jeff, Kent was mello leadership before climbing on top of the ladder. Don't know if you want to count him or not. What section was Tracy from (2000 DM)?

Kent did march mello, played trumpet (I think...), and was a vocalist. Yes.

Tracy was a trumpet player.

Kent never marched cymbals. Bozz did, the year before he became DM.

Are you going to the Wisconsin game (I assume so)? If you are would you please call up Turkey's big @$$ and MAKE him go with you? There seems to be some doubt in his mind as to whether he is going or not.

Talk to me, I'm not used to feeling out of the FMB loop! (And the sad part is, I'm only 30 minutes away!)
I have yet to see anyone mention the number of nugeye maggots, so I'll take care of that now. We have a total of 18 Maggots this year, 9 nugeyes, 9 vets. Oh, and Hayward has changed pregame for the Maggots so that we are now marching 16 instead of the original 12. Entry is still the same for us, however the 4 "new" spots follow out the original 12. At first I thought it was stupid, but from my perspective, it actually works out pretty easy. It would be nice if some of you Former Maggots would let me know how it looks from the stands and what your take is on it. That's all from me for now.

The Doc also made one other drastic change this year in pregame. Due to the construction of the sebo, the flag is now on the opposite end of the field. It is going to be very interesting to see how the band (especially vets) deals with having to turn a new direction at the end of America.

I happen to very much appreciate the change as my euphs can now actually see Dr. Moss instead of the back of a sousaphone during the SSB.

Whereas the opposite goes for the fliccs.... bahaha..... definitely one reason to be glad I'm not marching anymore!

This begs the question, what was the average tenure of the recent DMs?

Delaine and I were DMs for four years (89-92).

As far as the years I was in band...

Tom was DM for two years, I think (01-02), Elaina for one (02). Kent and Bozz were DM for two years, together (03-04). Heather was DM for one year (05). Brian is on his second year of being DM (05-06) as a fifth-year senior. Leah is now Brian's co-DM, and as she is only a junior, she will probably try again next year.
