I still don't get all of the hatred for Floyd around here.

So you're saying my guess about having a FIVE man motion offense this year was correct.

Personally, I rather liked Floyd. He always seemed to give it his all. Sure he wasn't the most talented player on the team, but damn it the kid always seemed to play as hard as he could.

You didn't have to watch him play all that often.

I will readily admit that the kid gave 100% on the court at all times. He was also among the SLOWEST PGs to ever suit up in a BG uniform. He couldn't see the floor, and he couldn't guard the couch I'm laying on. He routinely had 3-4 turnovers that were just total boneheaded plays resulting in easy buckets for the opposition. At least 3-4 times a game he would jack up a shot from 4 feet beyond the arc with 10+ seconds on the shot clock. He shot a ton and was a very poor shooter.

In essence, he was a slow, unathletic PG with a very poor basketball IQ. Effort can only take you so far.

What I disliked about him most, however, was how Dakich insisted on playing him major minutes every game.

I will say that Floyd actually showed some decent ability when playing off the ball last year, but for some reason Dan insisted on putting him back at PG, where he was just brutal.

I don't hate John Floyd, but I'll be quite happy to not have to watch him play any longer.

Good post Hammb and others. I understand Floyd wasn't the greatest player, but he always gave everything he had, and if this is true, I hope he graduates and makes a success of himself.

Meanwhile, all of our PG minutes from last year have left (Wright, Floyd, and Robinson). Who does everyone think can play there now?

That's a very interesting question. Hamblet is said to have been brought in for his playmaking ability. Clements had some minutes running the offense last year, although damned few. Simms is reported to be definitely NOT a point guard. Perhaps Bland and Samarco can provide some minutes. In my view, that's the biggest question mark going into the season. It would be very nice if Hamblet could step into 25 point guard minutes per game.

Ditto on hammbone's Floyd post. We didn't HATE him, we just got extremely sick and tired of seeing a DIII talent play 30 mpg.

I think coach Dakich was hoping he would be the next Tom Coverdale.

So is the Kentucky kid, Brandon Bland, the one that is taking this spot on the roster?

Probably got kicked off for the DUI...that would be my guess. Maybe he can transfer to CMU like someone else.

He did indeed...So I guess it really wouldn't be transferring.

I didn't like Opie as aour starting PG. I didn't have a problem with him starting at SG (until Samarco showed up). I thought he was ideally suited to be a third guard off the bench at our level.

The kid worked hard, so I'll give him his "props" (are people still giving props or is it "love" or something else now? I'm really bad with slang)
