One thing that bugs me... at least for the past few years... the mellophones in Forward Falcons!! (not sure who else has the part... maybe the alto saxes?)

We do these long eighth-note falls followed by some quarter-notes and then two little 16th note runs into half-notes (dotted-half ??) that DON'T carry over to the next run. There's a REST there!!!

It's "digga-digga-daaaaaa REST digga-digga-daaaaaa REST digga-digga-dunt" and then into the quarter notes...

(sorry, I don't have the music in front of me... but it was DRILLED into us my 2 years in band and I hate hearing it played otherwise -- I won't say wrong, because maybe that's how you're being taught to play it now -- but it's written as above)
Anyone else find it nerdy that I knew EXACTLY what part he was talking about?

If anyone has 88-92 'digitized' or on CD or even tapes, I'd LOVE to have copies. I will pay. I 'saved' my 91 and 92 tapes from the fire but the 92 ripped in my tape deck of the car

and I'm afraid my 91 will have the same demise.
I have most of the 92 tape+Band-O-Rama recording digitized

Cost to OHIOGAL= one Star Spangled Banner backbend.......quarter note=48

epidurals are for wimps! I had my kid natural. Of course, I've only had one. And I am much older. and it's been so long I've forgotten the pain... who's directing it this year????

I'll settle for a big dose of darvocet or percocet...

Admit it, it was my masterful representation of double-tonguing as "digga-digga-daaaa," right? MASTERFUL!

Having personally taught the song to the 2006 FMB Euphonia this year, I can tell you that the space between the notes was given attention for the first time in at least two years. Being that the euphoniums are the only section that actually can play the part correctly all the way through, I'd say that and important impact may have been made.

P.S. Its not that the mellos and saxes aren't good enough to play it, The euphs are the only instrument with proper range for the entire chromatic run, which makes us absolutely vital to FF.
Yeah right girl!

As the husband of a hott piccolo player, I kid about the no flutes thing. I have to, it was one of my wedding vows.

I hope everyone understands - I was looking for a good forward falcons for my MP3 - The one on here starts with a roll-off, which I don't like, and doesn't have the "twirler introduction drum break" in between the 1st and second time through the tune.

I just couldn't get over how different it was.

I don't think an issue is made of it in Kelly hall. It isn't arrogance on my part. I have honestly never noticed it before going through the 9 different versions of FF I have on MP3 or cassette.

Also - let it be known that my first year was 1992, and I am not talking about when I was in band.

Really!? That's freaking AWESOME!

I believe the 1989 tape is w/o the roll off. I'm pretty sure it has the drum break, however. The 1991 tape was recorded live before a packed Kobacher hall sans for only a few songs. Every now and then you can hear a baton or flag hit the stage floor because they were out from of the band performing.

Kari - care to share Big Noise?????

I will do a SSB back bend if you want, but you probably don't. Even a straight girl would rather see Delaine do it.
