Mark Shook named Assistant AD

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

Bowling Green State University Director Greg Christopher has announced that Mark Shook has been named Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services at Bowling Green State University. Shook, an Ohio native and a graduate of the University, has already begun his duties at BGSU.

"Mark is a terrific fit for Bowling Green," said Christopher. "He's been a part of two Div. I academic support programs, including Purdue which recently received the NCAA's highest award for academic service programs. And as a Bowling Green alum, Mark understands the culture and values here at Bowling Green."

Shook, a native of Rittman, Ohio, comes to BG after four years as an academic support services advisor in the department of athletics at Purdue University. He assumed that role in August of 2002, and in the summer of 2005 was named an associate director of academic support services. Shook was the lead academic advisor for the Boilermakers' football student-athletes, and also served that role for men's basketball as well as for numerous Olympic sports during his tenure.

"I am certainly excited to be back in Bowling Green," said Shook. "As a BGSU alumnus, and having grown up in Ohio, it feels like I'm coming home. I look forward to working with the quality student-athletes and staff and continuing the rich tradition of BGSU athletics."

In July of 2006, Shook received the Professional Promise Award for Region III from the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A). The award honors professionals serving student-athletes who have continuous membership of one year to no more than five years; extraordinary service to the N4A at the regional and/or national level; and outstanding performance as an academic advisor, life skills coordinator and/or administrator.

Prior to his tenure at Purdue, Shook spent a year as an academic mentor in the Student-Athlete Support Services office at Ohio State.

Shook spent nearly a decade as a high-school teacher and coach in Ohio, in Lexington, Orrville and Creston. Shook was at Orrville from 1992-95 before spending the next seven years at Lexington. He was the head baseball coach at Lexington from 1997-2000, and also was an assistant football coach. At Orrville, he coached baseball, football and girls basketball.

Shook earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from BGSU in 1992. He received a Master's of Education degree in sport education from Ashland University in 2001.

I know him personally, let's just say he does not lack in confidence. Good luck, I am shocked to see him get this position.
