I have a few comments on the subject of mass conspiracy and the NCAA's quest to keep the "Mid-Major" down.
1. Conspiracy theories are lame. [dripping with sarcasm]I'm sure that Myles Brand sits in his office with all the BCS conference reps and talks about how to keep Bowling Green down. [/dripping with sarcasm]
2. In reality, commitment is commitment. Bowling Green could consistently beat the lower level teams in the Big Ten because BG is more committed to football than them. Indiana is given the same amount of money as OSU from bowl games...but it doesn't make them more competitive. Your commitment is evident, in that your last coach used you as a step-up job to a step-up job. Commitment from an athletic department is what makes a powerhouse...not conspiracies.
3. What I don't understand, is the need for BG fans to get so envious about football. OSU fans are perfectly willing to accept that you are our equals or superior in other sports. Find pride in your school...not just a single sport. I'm proud to be associated with Ohio State on so many other levels. The Ohio State University hospital has been directly responsible for saving the lives of members of my family and I believe their excellent cancer research will save many others. I'm proud to consistently be one of the largest universities in the country. I'm proud of the jobs and economic benefits that OSU provides to the state. I'm proud of the leaders and high-profile graduates that the university has churned out. There is a LOT to be proud of. Find a sense of pride in something about your school OTHER than football, because your football envy is leading you to a bias that clouds the very reasonable, objective discussion that you claim to have been in search of, when coming to our board.
4. Continuing on "misconception" avenue. Our football program supports the largest athletic department and budget in the country. Before you immediately and ignorantly portray our academics in a negative light, consider what benefits athletics provide. Without athletic (and band, etc.) scholarships, thousands of kids would be left without an education or would require state assistance. I understand your outrage in the Maurice Claretts of the world, skating through classes. For every Maurice Clarett, however, there are a handful of kids, who will rarely see the field, but who's lives have been greatly improved by being able to get into a school and make the most of their education. The rest of the University benefits from the revenue as well...just because we're proud of our football, doesn't make our academic institution a joke, nor does it mean we are all a bunch of meat heads.
5. Call it arrogant and over-reactionary, but I'm sick of hearing transparently envious rants about Ohio State and it's fans. Go into a CEO's office and ask him about OSU. I guarentee you'll get a favorable opinion. Go into a hospital and ask a doctor what he thinks of our facilities. You'll hear glowing remarks. Ask any football fan about the Buckeyes, and all you get is hate and envy...ESPECIALLY among dissenting Ohioans. I know a lot of Buckeye-haters in Ohio are "free-thinkers" that don't want to be associated with the status quo. I realize that you think we are all a bunch of mindless lemmings, and you are making the world a better place by hating us. Just do me a favor, and try to step away from your clouded-with-bias viewpoints.
This isn't an issue of a single fan coming to a messageboard to talk football. This is yet another symptom of a greater promblem...blind hatred of everything Buckeye. One of your fan's came over with intent to cause a problem and to come back and report on how "evil" we were. This would, undoubtedly, reaffirm your fandom and give you "fuzzy feelings" about being superior to us. Go ahead and talk about how our love for football means we are uneducated and how it makes us less civilized. Continue on the path of self-righteousness because you haven't had booster-trouble (that you know of). It may give you a rallying cry, but your envy and bitterness still won't leave.
an experience made me appreciate this BG football board

Does anyone really think that there is a difference between trying to keep the BCS "up" and trying to keep Bowling Green and the MAC "down?"OilerBuck wrote:I have a few comments on the subject of mass conspiracy and the NCAA's quest to keep the "Mid-Major" down.

I don't think they sit there in dark rooms trying to keep us 'down,' but they sure as hell try to think of ways to keep the rich rich. (i.e. the creation of the BCS)

There is no difference. The only difference that exists is in perspective.Falcon30 wrote:Does anyone really think that there is a difference between trying to keep the BCS "up" and trying to keep Bowling Green and the MAC "down?"OilerBuck wrote:I have a few comments on the subject of mass conspiracy and the NCAA's quest to keep the "Mid-Major" down.
