Wow. This may turn out to be one of the worst moves made by the Stillers in a long time. How do you not even attempt to put a fifth round draft pick on the PS?
Now we can only hope that the Browns have enough sense to pick him up given the stable of...ahem...winners that they have now.

Easy fellows. Omar probably isn't going anywhere. Steelers would love to put him on their practice squad. They are hoping like hell he makes it through waivers. Actually, Omar is in a pretty good spot. If another team picks him up, he must be put on their 53 man roster. At worst, he stays with the Steelers and works on the practice squad for the year. He wasn't going to play this year even if he made the Steeler's 53 man roster.
The worst thing is probably the financial difference between making a team and being on a practice squad. I am not sure of the pay difference between the two, but I think the NFL minimum for a player is like around $285,000. Not sure what the compensation is for a practice squad player?
Omar would benefit the most from staying in the Steeler's system and learning their offense more. Maybe he goes to Europe and gets some experience in that league this Spring?
I don't see another team putting Omar on their roster this year. But, I could be wrong. There are a lot of terrible back-up quarterbacks in the NFL. Did Omar show enough Thursday night for someone to take a chance on him? We'll know by Sunday. Plus, I think and NFL team can steal him from the Steeler's practive squad throughout the year as long as they put him on their 53 man roster.

You have to release a player before you can put him on the PS so he can go through waivers.
If nobody else signs him, I think you can be assured the Steelers will retain him on their PS.
I don't think he'll make it through waivers.

Two years ago a player on the practice squad made $150,000. I'm sure that went up a bit, but I can't see that being too much more. I hope Omar can make a 53 man roster in the NFL. Oh well, remember Warren Moon played in Cananda a bit and look where he got (a spot in the HOF, but I'm not saying anything about Omar and HOF at all, just mentioning the CFL can help some players.)

WTF?
The Post-Gazette reports because QBs Ben Roethlisberger and Charlie Batch are the only quarterbacks on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster, WR Cedrick Wilson will be used at the position if both are injured during a game. "We've worked on him in practice with some snaps doing that, that would be the emergency guy," head coach Bill Cowher said. "We've not really ever gotten to that point, I hate to say that, but I just did. If that were the case, that's where we would go."

Name a smarter organization (besides New England). If you're a Browns or Bengals fan calling the Steelers stupid, well then that's just comical.
Assuming Omar is on the PS, you don't think they'd sign him to the active roster if Ben gets hurt? When was the last time 2 QBs got hurt in one game? This allows them to carry an extra receiver (ST demon) or safety.

Re: WTF?
Not that I want Big Ben or Charlie Batch to get injured (I want them to do well because they make the MAC look good), but I want the Steelers to have Murphy's Law and be forced to execute this plan. Believe me, if that day comes, I'll be laughing my butt off.Mr_Sweets wrote:The Post-Gazette reports because QBs Ben Roethlisberger and Charlie Batch are the only quarterbacks on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster, WR Cedrick Wilson will be used at the position if both are injured during a game.
