I know that many of us consider both Ohio A&M and UT fans to be dolts, but I don't think that they're dumb enough to fill a stadium in 2007 for a game to be played in 2009.MatelaAntwerp wrote:imagine what Toledo is going to get next year against OSU in a full stadium.

I remember when Northwestern "hosted" Ohio State at the old cleveland stadium...it was an ohio state home game as far as the crowd was concerned. Cleveland is an Ohio State town.jmillerbg wrote:The UT/OSU game will be much different from our game yesterday. It was really a pro-BG crowd. I don't care if UT is the home team in 2009, the crowd will be at least 80% (more like 90% probably) pro-OSU for that game.

I've noticed that several people said that we should've had this game in the Doyt because the attendance wasn't as high as what many thought. However, from what I've heard, Wisconsin wasn't willing to sign the home and home deal with us if this game had been in the Doyt. Having the game in Cleveland was the only way we were able to get this chance. Can anybody clarify or back me up on this?

I think that's right about the home-and-home. Wisky wanted to get an appearance in NE Ohio since they don't play at OSU for some stretch of years coming up.
In other news, everytime I see this thread title, I get a little angry. I'd love to have seen 40K-plus up there last night, but didn't we spend all summer hoping we would get 30,000? Maybe that was a minimum "hope", but I think it's FAR from a "huge disappointment". Especially considering the weather situation all day.

Sorry TG, but I never liked the idea, especially giving up a game in the Big House. If we had put 50K in I would say I was wrong. 40K would have been a split, but we coulda, shoulda put 30K in at the Doyt.

I wonder if we will try to do this again.
Rick Chryst was in today's Plain Dealer talking about how he wants a MAC game at Browns Stadium every year. We know Toledo will host Ohio State in 2009. This "Patriot Bowl" idea -- a service academy versus a MAC school -- continues to be a possibility.
But will *we* do it again. Should we?
I suppose it's up to the bean counters. The P-D was saying Bowling Green had hoped to break even on the game. I have a feeling we were hoping to do a little better originally.
But I hope we do it again in a few years. It was a really fun experience to see Bowling Green play in that big time setting, as host. And, I'll bet it impressed a few high school kids who happen to be very good at football.

To elaborate on what Schadenfreude has said, I thought it was a phenomenal day and night for BG. Sure, we didn't win, but the whole day really did have a bowl game type of feel to it. I think the Alumni Association did a great job of putting together events both before and after the game, and I think the Cleveland Browns were an excellent host.
I hope that if the MAC wants to do something like this every year that they will be able to. I also like the idea of having us play one "big time" home game at CBS every year, also. Given the size of our alumni base in NE Ohio, I think there is room for a lot of potential growth in making something like this an annual event. And from that perspective, I don't think it is too degrading for us to want to make something like this happen. It would be just another feather in our cap as far as recruiting goes, and we could also establish a tangible connection with a great deal of alumni who otherwise might not have taken the time to travel to a BG home game at DLP. I think this is something that we should definately explore, especially if we focused on teams within our "regional footprint" as far as opponents go (Michigan State, Syracuse, Penn State, Pitt, etc.). As long as we are still able to secure in interesting non-conference game at DLP every year, I think that this would work out very, very well for us, especially in terms of our traveling bowl crowds..
Just food for thought, I suppose.

I have never seen so many BG fans together in one place, at least since the ESPN NIU game in '03. When the game was close and BG was in a situation it was loud and exciting. Having the two bands in opposite corners battling it out added to the atmosphere. I was on the club level and going in to get a beer or food there were BG people everywhere.
To call this a disappointment baffles me, frankly.

Since BG and other mac schools have been experimenting with this I would offer this, esp with the attendance hammer falling yet again.
1. Our bigest game is the game against Toledo. I would assume from only going to Toledo for this game that it is also thiers.
Why then do we play this game every year after the students are released? I know one part of it is, this game figures heavy in determining Championships. Yet i would think one week early would not hurt.
2. Same BG Toldeo game, why not play this game at a neutral site like CBS, or DET or alternate the location. I would bet, just bet that if we played this game at CBS or at the Ford we could bump up a that number.
It seems to me to be along the same lines as having lights at the doyt...they put that off for too long and it had positive results. Why not move an important game,a nd toss int he neutral site I bet we could a ton more fans inthe seats...imagine if this game, were our first conference game every year...open big baby and let it all lay out right from the start.
seems to me there is room for some creative manuvering.

BG-UT
I don't think Toledo would give up a home game to play in Cleveland.
I heard that to get tickets for the OSU-UT game at Brown's Stadium, that UT will require anyone who wants an OSU ticket to buy season tickets. Toledo stands to make millions of dollars on this game.

If one didn't want to purchase season tickets, what would prevent one from buying one's tickets from another source?MacGuy wrote:I don't think Toledo would give up a home game to play in Cleveland.

At the Fiesta Bowl BCS Championship game, Buckeye fans joined the Miami Hurricane club in order to buy tickets through them.MacGuy wrote:I believe UT controls something like 58,000 tickets for the game, so most OSU fans or others have to go through them.

Me too. More would have been better, but I thought that was about all you could have expected, crowd wise. We had a great time.dstubb wrote:I have never seen so many BG fans together in one place, at least since the ESPN NIU game in '03. My only hope is that we don't over do it. Novelty matters in something like this. If we try to do it more often, I worry it would wear out the welcome. Let it go five years, let demand become pent up, and then let it go.
