As far as our Defense is concerned, although we weren't getting the tackles we should have been, we were hitting them constantly. How many people can hit someone that has a good 20-30 lbs on them constantly and bring them down every single time? That's the way it was for our D. If our D continues playing like that, we should be almost golden for our MAC games. As far as the special teams are concerned...well, that just needs work altogether, whether with a whole new punt system or just working on it, it doesn't matter, it just needs work. The stuff written in the BG News, although true, bothered me just because of the simple fact that it was written by someone here at BGSU who wrote about how bad MY(or in this case our) football team is. I'm sure that several other people who disagreed with it have the same feelings. I wish our boys in Orange and Brown good luck!!

the special teams were atrocious. however, that can be attributed to the idiotic punt formation this coaching staff continues to use. that wide open formation has caused so many blocked kicks and big returns in the past couple of years that i cannot understand why they continue to use it.

the special teams were directly responsible for two touchdowns in that game. any criticism directed toward that unit was totally justified.

ACtually and I know I will be corrected if I ma wrong, but with out looking it up our team had one of lowest avg returns inthe MAc, and in D1 if I am not mistaken. that is the trade off with the formation from Lot industries..you get great coverage, in exchange for a higher exposure to blocked punts.
and in all fairness to the BGNEWs and my coments, the BG NEWs is one of three papers I read, the other two are the WallStreet Journal and the york County coast Star. for what it is and who does it, alot of it is very good.

While the punt formation allows for a quicker rush down the field to stop returns, we all saw what happened on the Rojas punt where the up return man ran it back to the 2. The formation has too many gaps and can even provide problems if Rojas either under or over kicks the protection. While the formation is great for fakes, it still has too much to be left desired in terms of overall effectiveness. I don't like having our punter punting the ball with 3 of his own players 5 feet in front of him...it provides way too many negative situations.
