And it will always shine on the Falcon Marching Band!

As an alum and fan, I am pumped about this. In fact, this makes so much sense to me that I honestly don't know why no one ever thought of this before! I love watching you guys and gals at any chance I get, so this is just awesome. I have always been a fan of tailgaiting and enjoying the gameday atmosphere and, quite frankly, walking to and from the Field House has never been and would never be a part of that experience.

I realize that some of you may feel that you are losing traditions, which I respect. Still, you have to realize that your traditions last only four years (or maybe 10...), but hopefully the rest of us are gaining a tradition for the rest of our lives. I for one certainly hope so!

Hey, it only took me 5 1/2 years to graduate. I know of plenty of people who've taken longer. Hmmph.

we still have a 1/2 hour in the CMA for warm up time. (which is the same amount of time we had before the field house show started, correct? i think we always arrived half hour before the performance?) This time can be used for the stuff we did before the show started in the field house. Yes it will be different because we are in seperate rooms but it can work. When we did traditon stuff like good day bad day it was suppose to be our warm up time. We never really warmed up then. So I'm sure we still can get the traditions in and even warm up, just will have to work with it.

most of the traditions we used to have are gone now anyway. looks like the best thing is to just create new ones or adapt to the changes and adjust them.

the outdoor "fieldhouse show" will be alrght... but when it gets cold... well... yeah. lol

not gonna lie....this is more than likely my last season in the FMB, and I was really looking forward to Field House Shows this year. so on a personal note, I'm not totally fond of it, but hey, if it works...then rock on.

I'm sure that the change in venue will end up working out fine, but its some of the little things...like the percs/maggots/drum major/colorguard march to the fieldhouse and then perc/maggot entry AT the fieldhouse, not to mention the other traditions that other sections have.

but hey, whatev. life moves on and so do bands I guess.

Oh and check out this tidbit of fun from ASSistant A.D. Jason Horn:
"We're always looking for ways to add the overall game experience for our fans. Marching bands have become a ubiquitous element of the college football experience across the entire country over the years..."

Me thinks Mr. Horn has gone out and picked himself up a copy of "Dr. Moss' Dictionary for College Bandmembers". word.

and yes Jeff....some of us are taking longer than 5.5 years to graduate. so what?
remember this my friends:Graduating on time is like leaving the bar at 10:30.....by yourself.

and it looks like i'm leaving at 2:30. lol. and probably still by myself.

Furthermore, some of the sections in the FMB have very strong traditions tied in with the field house that may not be as prominent anymore :( Other than that I think it isn't a bad idea at all, its definately a great way to promote the FMB!

Maybe you could incorporate it into Baritone Breakfast somehow. I mean, you might not be able to lie down in the middle of the floor at a restaraunt...but I'm sure you could still do it somehow. You can't tell me some of the places we go to wouldn't be amused to see this in action! lol

We've got like 45 minutes for warming up (the same time we did at the field house) in the CMA. I figure that is the best time to get everything out!

I wonder if the percs are still marching from the MMAC.

DELAINE! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS? Marching down RIDGE STREET with the tubas, percs and flags!

[EXPLETIVE] AWESOME! There is nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing like that especially when the leaves are a bright yellow!

I hope they still do that, at least.

You could do that at a different point during the day, you know, if necessary...

NO!

As to what I think about a change of venue...I agree that the fieldhouse might not be the best place, but I don't think an outdoor venue is the way to go either. What I like about the fieldhouse show is that while it is football related, it's not really football related (yes that is confussing, but stick with me) I always felt that the fieldhouse show was "ours". I always felt like we were 'let' on the field for pregame and halftime because the football team isn't there. I know that's not exactly the case, but that's always been my feeling. I like the semi formal, semi casual feel that we got with that performance. I'm afraid that if it's moved into the middle of tent city that the nuance [sp?] will be lost. It will turn something that was our performance into something of a side show. That's what pregame, halftime, and post game are. Yes Anderson would be cool (2001 Sounds of the Stadium minus the other 3 bands would be friggin sweet) but then it's the same problem as with the fieldhouse. Out of the way of the football stadium. While I understand (or at least think I do) the reasonings behind the move, I don't think it's a good thing. I'd rather play for one good fan than 5 half drunk guys who show up, clap along with the school songs and then leave to find more beer.

Mark, that was the best march. I sure missed that when it was moved to the baseball field and then the field house!

Good luck today!
